How the fuck do you maintain your sanity working food service?

I got a job at a local restaurant. The customers are entitled shits. The managers are worthless and play favorites. The cooks get pissed at me for changes the customers want. My coworkers act like it's high school with cliques and gossip. And they're anal about rules. Like who gives a fuck if I eat a few fries from someone's order.

Anyway, it's fucking soul crushing and I don't know how to stay focused and optimistic. Any suggestions?

by befriending your coworkers... in particular the attractive ones. I'm serious. Have you ever wondered why time flies when you're hitting it off with a cute girl? It's because you don't really give a shit about where you guys are or what you're doing. All you care about is that you're in her presence. That's enough to make your day worthwhile so much so that you'll feel like you can spend all day there so long as you're around her.
If you can't find (or befriend) a qt 3.14, then your next best bet is to befriend a guy you can really get along with. It makes your shift 100x better.
If you can't befriend either, then brown-nosing your manager and getting on their good side can really help.
If you can't do any of the three (or you can, but you don't have proximity to them), then the best you can do is to pull a Squirdward and stop taking your job so seriously. Just get in, apply the minimum amount of effort/dedication, and don't let people's aggressive comments get under your skin.

TL;DR: befriend cool people, befriend your boss, or don't take the job so seriously.

If you're an adult who is not enrolled in college and the fast food job is your job for the unforeseeable future you should either kill yourself or make some change as soon as possible.

I worked a few years as a fast food peon when I was in high school. I can give a few pieces of advice:

If you enjoy getting high then smoke weed periodically throughout your shift. Don't get absolutely blasted so you are uncomfortable and your state of being is noticeable. Just take a few hits periodically to maintain a nice ebb and flow. Low dose edibles are okay and take care of any issues with odor but I preferred the pulses of smoking intermittently.

Keep stealing fries and whatever else you can, especially when high. I used to purposely fuck up orders like eat a patty from a Big Mac (*that someone else made, this is key) and then when the customer brought it back and complained I'd give them a good Big Mac and eat the one with only one patty. I did this a lot especially with a coworker I hated and he got in a lot of trouble for "always screwing up orders" lol. He started questioning his own abilities and couldn't understand what was happening, it was hilarious.

This might seem a bit extreme but I would sometimes jerk off in the bathroom. It got to the point where if I had porn preselected ahead of time I could cum in less than 5 minutes easily. It just broke up the shift and added a sort of excitement to the day.

Never overtly fuck with food or customers either. This includes letting any other coworkers, even the ones you are friends with, in on your pranks or revenge. Just do it and keep it to yourself. I won't list what I've done but lets just say my bathroom breaks described above were used for revenge at least 10 times while I was working at a Wendy's one summer.

You're working a shit job for shit pay. Just accept it and squeeze whatever small enjoyment and satisfaction you can. If that means smoking weed, jerking off, stealing food and playing pranks then why not?

There are also areas in seedy parts of town where the homeless congregate specifically to trade such shit. OP, it's fine to steal food from your work because you have no material reason to want the business to succeed beyond staying open, even then you can find another job. I switched to the kitchen just to help out the restaurant in a pinch and after 3 months of that they're promoting me to a Sous Chef and moving me to another location, after first flying me to Orlando and putting me in a hotel for 6 weeks for training. 55k+quarterly bonuses. I like restaurants not just because of the quick cash but because of the social environment at work. Its basically like high school except this time I get to be cool. I can talk shit about customers, be openly racist, fuck waitresses and hostesses, and all these are acceptable behavior.

The back is nicer in that I don't have to deal with customers, and building dishes is a lot like building drinks, which is probably why I was able to adapt so quickly, and the cooks are even more raunchy than the servers. The only problem is the language barrier, especially in Miami. I speak some Spanish but with the fluency of a grade school child. I can have simple conversations but nothing in depth, I usually have to rely on physical/sexual comedy to bond with the rest of the boh.
