what I don't get is why add so much crap? Surely it is cheaper just to add sugar, maybe some fruit juice concentrate and co2, add caffeine if it is energy drink, it would be cheaper and healthier too.

It reads like Mountain Dew - and if it were possible to make a cheaper, consisten product with sugar, real citrus, and less-processed caffeine, I'm sure they'd be doing just that.

Well I'm sure as hell not going to drink vegetable oil if it isn't brominated.

BVO was used in carbonated beverages that included citrus flavours to prevent the citrus oil from separating. In the EU, it was replaced with glycerol ester of wood rosin (which they are legally allowed to hide on their labels by calling it E445).

The only recorded case of acute bromism from consuming soft drinks which use BVO was from a man who was regularly drinking up to a gallon of cola a day.

They don't, increasingly. Sales of soda have dropped precipitously for like 14 years.

I haven't seen a normal non boomer person reach for a "soda" as their desired drink in years. All we ever have in my house are 0 cal energy drinks, some flavored waters.

I have to laugh at this. Constantly hear how bad our food is and how bad our labels are from eurobros.

They are apparently totally blissfully unaware that we have the good labels and theirs just outright omit scary things.

Most soft drinks here don't actually contain any e numbers and minimum number of ingredients, only the cheapest no name brands that sell huge 3 liter bottles come with those. Infact in my local supermarkets don't even sell those. Again it is against the law not to list those ingredients on the label if the actual products contains them.
