I've never been much into vodka. I feel like it's always mixed into cocktails where other flavors are dominant.
Should I be using a glencairn to taste/sniff test different vodkas?

I think so. It's a very clean vodka; little burn and almost no flavor, which makes it dangerous. Good to drink straight or mixed and decently priced.

Too expensive like $32 a handle. I just drink Svedka. But Reyka is very clean.

premium vodka is a fad to scam retarded millennials who don't know how to buy cheap vodka. Pic related, it's cheap at 17.99 a handle where I live, it tastes like nothing, and it goes down smooth. Compare to some garbage like tito's or OP's pic, which regularly go for 25-$30 a handle but taste like shit, the choice is obvious.

>> No.16611020

If you think tito's tastes like shit, you don't like good vodka.

Tito's is one of the best in it's price range, at least in the US. No idea what it costs elsewhere.

>> No.16611146

vodka is vodka you fucking mong, as long as it doesn't taste like battery acid or pure ethanol then who gives a shit? Nobody sips on vodka, they get drunk on it, hence why most people care about the price, not the taste. If you want to be pretentious about the taste of your liquor then go to the whiskey threads.

It's pretty good honestly. Depends on the price you're paying but yeah. Unless you're mixing, then no. Just get a big giant bottle of Popov, which is the greatest cheap vodka. Mixes fine and tastes good on its own.

It's good, yeah. Not like Belvedere or Ketel, but it's good.

Ultimately, vodka is vodka, UNTIL you get the bottom shelf. The bottom shelf will quite literally destroy your gut, and you will almost be guaranteed to be puking before the end of the night.

Vodka is the spirit whose quality is least connected to price. It's basically all the same drek but with different packaging to convince you its different. The whole point of vodka is to not have taste

That reminds me of a few weeks ago where the only local liqour store forget to restock Sobieski and had ran out of Tito's, so instead of more bottom-barrel options I tried this shit called Wheatleys.
The first shot went down OK with a preemptive can of seltzer, but after that the aftertaste shone through, and it made me vomit on the second. God, even Everclear goes down much nicer than this.
And my dumb alcoholic ass actually braved on and almost finished the fifth, nearly or actually vomiting every time, but mostly in my mouth. It was such an effort to keep it down that I didn't get into a good booze zone for the most of it.

And the other hand: absolutely no hangover.

I'm with you on the latter, but I have met plenty of people who sipped on vodka like tasting fine wine. And well, I guess they aren't wrong that specific vodka can be determined by taste independent of just ALC%.
But yeah, tasting is for wine, sake, beer, etc.

Not quite. The point of vodka is to make a liquor which can be readily and simply poured and consumed from the bottle by most people looking to get inebriated.
Rectified spirits are the least connected to price, and advertise themselves on being neutral ethanol to be added to something else for a cost-effective increase in alcohol content. And not meant to be consumed straight (though people do).

Now, you can make vodka from rectified spirits, but you are fundamentally changing the potency and portability of the spirit in the process.
