Until you've had Meukow, D'usse, and Courvoisier you'll then know the basic shelf cognacs. After that? I got it for free and I use it for cooking and mixing drinks mostly. Used it has an example for wood, grape, and apple notes when "teaching" my friend how to taste spirits. If you want a cognac about the same price then Martell Single Distillery or if you want to go a little bigger Rémy Martin 1738. That being said consumer alcohol tasting is mostly made up nonsense since individual taste plays such a huge part.
