Cruzan isn't the best rum I've drank, but it's the most drinkable. Especially mixed, I'll empty a glass before I even realize it.

cruzan black strap is unironically good tho. it's a molasses bomb, there's nothing else like it on the shelves, and it costs half of what you'd pay for most mid-shelf rums. plays well in cocktails, but go heavy on the citrus or use it as a float to counterbalance its sweetness.
everything else by cruzan is pretty bad, unfortunately

maybe I'll try it one day. I offered him some of my Plantation 5 yr old, but no dice(he said his brother is a rum aficionado so maybe already knows Plantation). I'm thinking of either getting a Doorly's 12, Ron Zacapa 23 or Pampero Anaversario a little later in the year just to mix it up from Scotch and Bourbon in the winter.

Unironically the best 151 I've tasted. It was actually very pleasant before the gas flavor kicked it. Cruzan is genuinely the best mixing rum on the market, the fact that its dirt cheap is just a bonus. And their coconut rum takes a giant creamy steamer on Malibu.
