Get a bunch of tinned chopped tomatoes, like a few cents each probably, and some onions. That way you can make actual sauce bases for your pasta that you can adapt with whatever you have around.

A kg of potatoes costs fuck all too, and you can make fries, baked potatoes, mash etc with them for a few meals. Gives your mouth variety for free.

Chicken is good, but you can probably get some bacon offcuts for real cheap too for more flavour.

Eggs are real good too, good in fried rice, omlettes, etc. and fuck it you can always make cookies or cake.

Also, you need literally just flour to make pizza bases, and you'll already have tomatoes, just saying.
