To each their own. I prefer a basic cheeseburger because of the onions, but I have to add mustard, because somewhere along the way McDs stopped putting anything on it but ketchup. It had mustard on it, as well, when I was a kid.
If I go to McDs, which is a rare thing, it'll be because I want a McGriddle sausage, egg, and cheese, and needed a coffee or iced tea for a long drive
The other reason to go to McDs is if you are out of town somewhere in some city centre with limited bathrooms, and a simple small order gets you a receipt to use the bathroom code there. Think prague or somewhere that you want american style clean normal bathrooms, not some third world conditions. You might also get to try some weird local item. I think I had a bubble tea in Vienna of all places.

I'd say almost all the MCD beef line caters to a specific niche:
>Quarter Pounder
With the beef patty revision a few years back, it is probably the most standard, hearty burger offering. Saltier and sweeter than most competition brands, but for many people that it makes it that much better.
>Big Mac
Love/Hate. Definitely weaker than the QP overall, but probably appeals those who are looking for a less overpowering taste and texture of the patty with the lettuce and sauce. I find the bread to be more filling, fwiw.
It is also still their signature sandwich, so it holds a cultural association like Coke Cola.
>McDouble / Hamburger (w/wo cheese)
Most cost effective, appealing to kids or those with smaller appetite, but comes with a poorer quality patty than the QP and a less rich taste/texture than the Big Mac.

I could go on about the other offerings, but the only item on the MCDs menu that sticks out like a sore thumb is the FIlet-O-Fish. Whatever you say about the Big Mac, tell me how the FIlet-O-Fish is better.
