We have to eat a minimum of 13 hotdogs, signifying the 13 colonies that declared independence. It's the law.

Blind patriotism leads people to condone abuse by their government and anyone who wraps themself with a flag, metaphorically.
Zero patriotism means people are comfortable with bad conditions since they have no attachment to the land and see themselves as rats on a sinking ship. Politicians are the most cynical because they sell out the people they're supposed to serve.
The right answer is a moderate amount of patriotism. Appreciate that in democratic institutions the struggle for power can be peaceful and constructive; a competition of ideologies.
