Always been fascinated by old diners and drive-ins from the 40s - early 60s. Wonder if the food was any better back then too

That was the era where packaged frozen TV dinners were seen as luxurious, and all that weird shit like hot dog jell-o salad was actually popular and served, so I doubt it

It’s very unlikely the food was better. WWII did some crazy things to people’s eating habits and recipes. That and severely overcooking things was common which was passed down to boomers.

Some are still around doing the same thing. Unless it's a specialty like barbecue, rural food is bland and greasy.
