Argentine Cab Franc is pretty top tier. Cab Franc overall is a really underappreciated grape, I feel like.

Can I just fucking talk about Hamm's? I have been checking out budget beers for the last couple of months and most of them are absolute dogshit. Like when you get to the bottom of the can it is just this nasty tasting, snotty textured swill that you force down your throat just so you don't waste a drop. Coors Light is especially bad with the dregs and makes me gag ever time I try it. Tonight for shits and giggles I picked up a case of Hamm's. It is cheaper than most of the budget beers, costing just a little more than Natty Ice and PBR. But the taste? Fucking amazing for an American Lager. It is kinda rich and nutty with an almost almond after taste. The best part it from the first sip to the last it retains it's flavor. It doesn't get scummy or thick as the can warms. The best of all the budget beers available in my local beer cave. At $11.39 (plus taxes) it is the perfect compromise between cost and flavor. 4.6% ABV so it isn't going to knock your socks off, but if you want something to bring to a BBQ or the beach and not have people look at you like you have a methlab in your bathroom, then this is the shit.

Absolutely refreshing after spending a day working outside. Probably going to become by go to beer from this point on.

How do y'all decide on a wine to try? I'm only really drink rum, but I've been trying to get into wine. I always end up disappointing myself when I go to the liquor store, because I can't make heads or tails of what I might or might not like. I've only come to the conclusion that I'm not huge on dry wines and that I have a preference for reds.
What do?

I don't drink beer often, I usually prefer wine, but decided to try craft beer for once to see what the years of memeing was all about.
Ordered a 'tasting package' of Bavadian Craft Beer - allegedly some of the best beer in the world, seeveral bottles have a 'winner world beer awards' sticker anyways. Let's see:
>Obergärig Hell
This is just regular beer you can get at any store, it tastes like the idear of 'beer flavor' if that makes sense. Of course it costs 5x though. Not a great start.
>German Pale Ale
It's okay, another beery beer but with some nice subtle flavors. Would buy this at the store if it was a regular brand with a reasonable price.
>India Pale Ale
Awful. I actually laughed out loud after the first sip since they decided to slap the 'world's best beer' sticker on this one in particular. Regular beer but with a bad aftertaste.
>Imperial Stout
First one that actually tastes good. Similar to Guiness but minus the unpleasant flavors, it also has a noticeable level of viscosity which gives it a very rich mouthfeel. Would definitely drink again and worth the pricetag for being a different experience.

And then there's this abomination.
It comes at you in waves. First it tastes like stale regular beer that someone accidentaly dropped half a shot of vodka into (looked at the bottle after, it has like 9% alc). Then comes some very intense bitterness. Finally a disgusting aftertaste, like gurgling seltzer water right after taking a huge puff from a cheap cigarette.

Anyways, I'm think I'm done with craft beer but will look out for any "stout" type beers in the future in the store.

The biggest thing is to formulate a sort of baseline to see what you like, so you can branch out from there. Try cheapish examples of different grapes, think about what you like or dislike about them. Is it too acidic or tannic? Do you like the flavours, and which ones?

Then, try to find a good wine store- that is, a store that specializes in wine, where the people care about it and are knowledgeable. You can usually tell pretty quickly, if you go in and ask an employee about what interesting things they have or if there's been any new arrivals they really liked. Tell these people what you have liked and not liked, and get some recommendations. Branch out. Try nicer examples of wines you like, or the same grape from different regions.

A key thing to know is that in most new-world wines, the primary grape in the wine is used to identify it, but in the old world, regional names are used that encapsulate both the grapes used and the style the wine has. This method requires a lot more background knowledge, or research, to parse, but also gives you a more detailed picture of what the wine will be like.

I don't care what you think about IPAs, this is a damned good beer, especially for the price. Tastes more like a heavy lager but with a good pine flavor. Refreshing for how high abv it is.

I've outgrown IPAs in recent years, but just had a pint of this at a bar last night. I was reminded just how good it was. Used to be my go to. Nowadays I tend to stick to boomer-tier, low-ABV beers and sours.

On a side note, I bought some of those Ole Smokey moonshine pickles, and they are absolutely horrendous. Smells like a pickle, but has the most vile boozey aftertaste, and it's only in 40 proof """""moonshine."""""

Never again.

>wine tasting has been shown to be bullshit
Tastelets and poorfags trot out this tired old meme every time wine is mentioned in defense of their inability to tell Chateauneuf-du-Pape from Sutter Home blended red. The meme of egalitarianism has poisoned their minds with the idea that if they personally can't do something, others must be lying about their ability to do it.
