Recent? Like yeah it's gaining in popularity because we go through these waves but I'm from a fucking shithole rural state and I've had access to Korean food for at least 20 years. I miss the little old Korean grandma that ran a barbeque joint by herself. The Korean kids from the University were pretty much the only regulars. I used to go in for lunch because she had a 5 dollar special with barbeque and side dishes. She would also get really pissed if you tried to tip her and she would always cook some weird extra Korean country dish to take home and eat. I have no fucking clue how she stayed in business

Shabu shabu is first of all: JAPANESE, that nation's equivalent of Chinese hotpot, it has nothing to do with barbecue nor Korea.
BULGOGI is not simply "fried meat," it's a preparation of marinated beef you can order, among many other things (galbi, samgyeopsal ect.) at any kbbq joint.
