Imagine just letting your life slip through your fingers and having no idea how to stop the ebbing of time. No-one to care how you spend your time. >You need one of those soup mugs with a top.
Got rolled oats (fuck instant rolled don't take much to cook) and put a serving to 1.5 servings in the mug with fav spices. Add water so it covers it with a little bit over the top; just like rice. Microwave it for maybe like 2 minutes. Remover CAREFULLY, cause it will be hot. While that's chilling pour out a serving of frozen fruit or berries and microwave it till its defrosted and not super cold; like 1min-1.5min. Carefully open and remove mug lid; steam is hot. Dump in fruit. If you have peanutbutter, get a big spoonful of that and stir it into the mug.

BOOM! Full of nutrition and easy. Only thing is if you don't want to clean a mug everyday, it will honestly work in a big enough bowl. I used to microwave the berries and oatmeal at the same time, but forget how. Tumeric and cocoa powder are great in this too.

P.S. sprouts sells their brand peanut butter that contains ONLY peanuts with no palm oil trash for like $3 for a 16oz jar.

If you can use the oven and don't need food ASAP, my personal favorite:
>2 Russet Potatoes
>1-2 Yellow Onions
> 1/2- 1 stick of butter
1. Lay foil in oven over rack, set oven to 425F, start next steps while preheating. Some prefer doing it on the racks and having something to catch the excess butter, I don't notice a difference and the foil makes for easier cleanup.
2. Wash potatoes with hands, dry off and leave for at least 15 minutes
3. Put around 1/4-1/2 of the stick in a large microwave-safe bowl and heat on low power until mostly melted
4. Add a few shakes of salt, more if unsalted butter
5. Poke a few holes in each potato with a fork
6. Coat potatoes with butter in bowl
7. Set oven to 1 hour 15 minutes, put both potatoes on foil.
8. Take yellow onion(s), chop off ends, slice in half from the tops
9. Peel off uppermost complete layer
10, Lather onion halves in butter, making sure it absorbs some. Optionally add pepper.
11. At around 1 hour remaining, put in full halves
12. At 30 minutes Separate out onion halves and flip potatoes
13. Check at 10 minutes if onions are sufficiently crispy
14. When ready, take out onions and potatoes.
15. Make incision into top of potatoes, and spin a knife/fork inside to fluff up potato
16. Add butter into potato, fluff up more
And then add whatever toppings you like into the potatoes and serve. I like tabasco.
Unless they are large, you can probably eat them with one hand. You can also turn off the oven and keep the other potato inside while eating the first to keep the latter warm.

Hmm?
If that's too pricy for a meal totally fair, I can agree with that, but the price of the ingredients doesn't invalidate it being a depression meal.
While a depression meal is often intentionally half-assed or looks depressing, it doesn't have to be. The main thing is that it is convenient and manageable for a person who is depressed, rather than foregoing the meal altogether.

I had an old coworker who was heavily, constantly depressed (and as far as reasons go, his were pretty damn legitimate) but also loved his food. So after 25 decades of depending heavily on a microwave while working 18+-hour shifts, he had acquired the tools, utensils, and skills needed to make a bunch of dishes you wouldn't think once of making in a microwave.
No joke, the best shrimp gumbo + seasoned rice I've ever had came from him sitting alongside the industrial microwave at work and tweaking the power levels with the various cold/frozen ingredients. I'd often bring in raw ingredients and help him make it.

that sucks man. im in the UK and I was depressed as fuck during lockdown. fortunately gyms reopened a coupe months ago. It was hard to go at first but evntually I got into a routine and it felt good. I have depression but still have the energy to make myself eggs and bacon and coffee most days. I also go to the gym, yeah some days I just stay home and do nothing but I couldn’t live like that everyday. I think some of you are just fat and that’s why you’re depressed and/or have no energy, you need to go to the gym or at least go for a walk.

>> No.16339313

>he's not going through 45 minutes of meal prep
Unless you consider waiting while doing something else to be prep time, it is not. What does take over hour is passive waiting for preheating and the potatoes to cook. If that's too much, fair, but beyond flipping the switch and waiting there's no work on your part. You're just stuck in your living space, you just do whatever until the heating alarm/timer goes off. Set it and (mostly) forget it.
If you use pre-washed potatoes (or don't care) like he is, the minimal "meal prep," as in where you do work to make the meal, is liquefying the butter, covering the potatoes, flipping them once, and fluffing/buttering up the insides (which you can do after sitting down to eat). That's 5-10 minutes even if you're going slow.
What's actually most laborious is the cleanup, unless you have a dishwasher. I don't, the buttery bowl is a bit annoying. Foil avoids having to clean up an oven dish if you let the butter solidify on it.
>that's some functional family mealtime shit
It sure can be, though I imagine most families would be making this as a convenient side to some main dish. It can also be dysfunctional single mealtime shit. This is easier than washing and cooking rice in a rice cooker and eating it with some sauce, for instance.

I'm sure it's easy, but that's not a depression meal though.

What about getting out of bed after 12 hours of waking up and rolling around for hours solely to avoid the sores becoming worse?
Only half-joking. I both agree with your specific scenario, but I don't think that it doesn't qualify as a depression meal because it only works with someone with a lesser state of depression. I mentioned that caveat in the first post.
If one's depression is severe enough they are going to have trouble eating anything at all, even the easiest meals here, because satiating the pang of hunger is a huge bother in itself.

It's important to eat meat and vegetables to prevent making your depression worse.

Steak you just slap in a pan with a bit of oil with salt, pepper and herbs on both sides. As long as you've cooked the exterior, you're fine. Eventually you'll get a feel for how long you like it cooked so don't stress about over or under cooking it for the first like 10 steaks. Finally while the pan's still hot throw in some frozen veggies until they're warm and tasty from the steak juices, season them as well if you like.

Finally throw them on your plate with your well rested steak and eat. All you need to clean is the pan, your plate and your knife and fork, you don't even need a spatula because steak can be easily flipped in the pan.

You're gonna make it bro, this shit takes like 15 minutes to cook total and is a perfect backbone to your regular diet.

I've always said that men are more naturally inclined at making friends and just having an actual feeling interaction than woman. All the time I see my bf shoot the shit with a complete stranger and it just is fine, they joke, it's like an inner circle. I find this much harder as a woman. I mean I know it's simply, hey just go chat with someone etc. Not saying there aren't tons of introverted women who do this similar dance, but it feels way less common in real life.

He has easier simpler recipes that are 1-2 ingredients. You can buy slices garlic, bacon, onions and microwave rice and do this without having to take so many steps. Hell just microwave an egg and add it on top and make this more of a slop than a dish~

>> No.16350921

I would recommend buying a shitton of tupperware (Glass if you have the money, plastic if you don't) and mass producing chilis and stews and such when you have the energy. Then you only need a microwave.

Outside of that, there's various processed foods, soups, chilis, stews, etc already prepared but anything remotely good for you won't be cheap generally speaking. Sandwiches are very easy. premix salad and dressing. Cans of fish.

For lunch or dinner my go to is either school lunch chicken parm (microwave chicken patty, add pasta sauce and a slice of provolone, microwave again) or a shitty stir fry (rice, egg, any meat, any veg, any sauce) desu you can throw most leftovers in a pan with a starch, an egg, and extra sauce and get something palatable.

Yeah it was pretty bad, I was also drinking like a sponge at the time, going through 3-4 bottles of spiced rum a week. Getting into egg sandwich autism really helped me unironically, I quit drinking because it was fucking up my sandwiches. The only reason I was even leaving my dorm other than for classes was to buy interesting ingredients for egg sandwiches.
My personal favorite:
Ingredients:
>brioche bread, butter, 2 free-range (makes a taste difference) eggs, rosemary, gouda cheese, baby spinach
Recipe:
>whisk egg whites + yolks in a bowl with chopped rosemary until homogenous (add salt + pepper to taste)
>melt butter in frying pan with a little olive oil, pour eggs into pan, fry over easy
