My school had these breakfast sandwiches that were ham egg and cheese or ham sausage and cheese on a roll and they were always so hot and ooey gooey. Really good.

If it had to be lunch, they'd do two burritos and mashed potatoes with gravy. If it was around Thanksgiving, they'd have some turkey in the gravy.

You can easily remake this at home. If you are in the US buy On-Cor ribs and some hoagie rolls. It is what I always do when I feel like some cafeteria grade rib sandwiches. The cafeteria ones definitely tastes way better than the McRib.

For me, it was the humble Cheese Zombie. Not sure why they called them that. It's just processed American cheese sandwiched between two layers of biscuit dough and cooked in a giant sheet pan. Crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy in the middle and stuffed with cheesy goodness.

I remember my elementary school having a special day where we all got a piece of some kind of oreo cake. It was very good, and has never never been beat by any other lunch item. Either way, it's been so long since I've ate a school lunch. I've forgotten what opinions I had for all the stuff like pizzas or burgers. It was just a simple ham/turkey and cheese sandwich that was left there from hours ago, so the cheese had lightly melted, i don't know why but they were amazing to eat and they let you have as many as you wanted. My schools up until university never had food, and that makes me sad. They had some breakfast club charity stuff for poor kids who didnt get to eat at home, but that's it. Feels like I missed out.
In uni I liked the stir fry station and chicken caesar wraps/muffuletta at the sammie station.

Went to a private Catholic school and the chocolate chip cookies were baked fresh every morning, and were absolutely amazing.
Wednesdays were meatball sub day, and the supplier of the meatballs was a great local Italian family owned sausage company, so those were great.

I wish I took pictures of my favorite school lunches growing up since I have to rely on looking up lunches online. Two I remember was back in middle school (2009-2012) we had baked chicken day. The chicken looked like breaded fried chicken but wasn't. It was cooked in the ovens and you had a choice of thigh and leg or a breast. I got the breast because it was larger and most of the time not as dry. I have a question for anyone who knows this back in 2005-2009 and I don't know if this was only in my school district that was doing it but for some reason my elementary school that I was in during the time was doing a thing to get kids to eat healthier by giving out some kind of square rectangle lunchable looking box with weird characters on it. The box had a polar bear a penguin and they we're all doing sporty stuff like snowboarding and playing basketball but inside the box had a plastic figurine mold toy of one of the characters playing a sport, a small comic book about the characters playing a sport, and the food. The food was one of the worst things I've ever tasted and I still remember how bad it was today because it was some kind of dried chicken rectangle with plain crackers and a packet of yellow mustard to make a sandwich with kind of like a military MRE.
