My school had these breakfast sandwiches that were ham egg and cheese or ham sausage and cheese on a roll and they were always so hot and ooey gooey. Really good.

If it had to be lunch, they'd do two burritos and mashed potatoes with gravy. If it was around Thanksgiving, they'd have some turkey in the gravy.

I unironically miss school lunches. I would always get the printouts of the monthly lunch schedule and get hyped for all the special once-monthly and bi-weekly special days. The regular stuff was good too
>school pizza
>"breakfast pizza"
>grilled cheese day
>fried chicken day
>chicken patty day
>cheeseburger day (though it sucked when you got a bone fragment in the patty)
>when they would serve fruit cobblers
>strawberry milk before Michelle got rid of it
>those chocolate chip cookies where half the fun was the cookie, the other half was popping the bag they came in without the cafeteria aides seeing you

does anyone, on any off chance, have a picture of the wrappers of either the cheeseburgers or chicken patty sandwiches used to come in? I just vaguely remembered the off-white-with-blue-text writing that came on the chicken sandwiches and would love to see it again

It was just a simple ham/turkey and cheese sandwich that was left there from hours ago, so the cheese had lightly melted, i don't know why but they were amazing to eat and they let you have as many as you wanted. Sometimes i recreate it at my house. i make turkey and cheese sandwich halves and just let them sit there for a few hours before i eat them.

You can eat it with cheese, jam, butter etc. for breakfast or toppings (e.g. >>16333619) for lunch. It's really good and much healthier than white bread.

Optional: if you eat it for breakfast you can put it in the oven for a few minutes to make it crispy and warm. I sometimes do that and eat with butter and cheese. Pour a tiny bit of water on the bread before you put it in the oven if the bread is getting dry/ old.

School food is a 3rd world exclusive thing i guess, since we never had it here and i have never seen it in other developed countries either.
But this makes totally sense, since most families are too poor to provide food for their kids on a regular basis.
I hope they continue this programme.

it was a strange time. whats sad is that the base is no longer there anymore. its all gone and just exists as a memory, but the hotel is still there for what its worth. spent many days lounging around the hotel lobby. it was a pretty common thing for people to do. we spent most of our time off base drinking soju and shooting fireworks by the river, or hitting the town up and going to bars. i was in a hc band for a little bit and played a single show before moving.
i really miss the korean street food culture that existed there, but the government cracked down on that. so much has changed since i left, i don't know what i would recognize. i doubt itaewon has changed much.

I wish I took pictures of my favorite school lunches growing up since I have to rely on looking up lunches online. Two I remember was back in middle school (2009-2012) we had baked chicken day. The chicken looked like breaded fried chicken but wasn't. It was cooked in the ovens and you had a choice of thigh and leg or a breast. I got the breast because it was larger and most of the time not as dry. Another favorite I had throughout the elementary to highschool was the holiday meal the day before breaks (thanksgiving & winter) they had turkey & gravy meals with mashed potatoes, stuffing, bread roll, cranberry sauce, some kind of dessert relating to the holiday like apple or pumpkin pie in a plastic square plate that fit on the tray. That's all I remember fondly of besides what's already posted on here and if I can find some pictures I took of my old school lunches which is maybe one or two of them then I'll reply to this post with what I have if the thread is still up.

I have a question for anyone who knows this back in 2005-2009 and I don't know if this was only in my school district that was doing it but for some reason my elementary school that I was in during the time was doing a thing to get kids to eat healthier by giving out some kind of square rectangle lunchable looking box with weird characters on it. The box had a polar bear a penguin and they we're all doing sporty stuff like snowboarding and playing basketball but inside the box had a plastic figurine mold toy of one of the characters playing a sport, a small comic book about the characters playing a sport, and the food. The food was one of the worst things I've ever tasted and I still remember how bad it was today because it was some kind of dried chicken rectangle with plain crackers and a packet of yellow mustard to make a sandwich with kind of like a military MRE. It was basically bait to get the kids to eat healthy. If anyone remembers what I'm talking about please reply?

I went to school in italy, it was in a nato base.
they had fresh out of the oven margherita once a week. the rest was mostly pasta and vegetables, with the odd serving of rice or mashed potatoes. all delivered in plastic packets for some reason (except the pizza of course), even though all of it came from the mess hall of the base.

sometimes they gave steamed baby carrots with olive oil and salt. nobody would even open the packets so I would collect them all and eat as much as I can. it was delicious.
