Serious question about Tabasco:
Why is such a bad hot sauce so popular?
Are there historical reasons for why it's so entrenched? Cultural reasons? What's going on?

they have a good corporate marketing campaign and use wizardry.

go to any chain restraunt and ask for 'hot sauce', and they will bring you tobasco. i've seen this at denny's, texas road house, olive garden, all of the chain restaurants.. Tobasco is like the mafia of sauces. and if you try to buy it in the store, it's like $3 for a tiny ass bottle. honestly i just steal it sometimes.

i'd put it in my top 5 fav hot sauces, but it's not worth the price they're asking for. you should try tobasco scorpion if you have higher spice tolerances, i just need a few drops of that and it's not as runny.

Maybe if it's so popular it's not a bad hot sauce.

I think the taste is very simple. Vinegar and chillies. If you like those 2 ingredients it's a very versatile sauce.

Also the fact that it's only a little spicy means even very white people can enjoy it too.

tabasco is the GOAT because it goes with anything and masks bad flavors while being a very easy to palate taste.
If you ever been living off rations or living off scraps, no other hotsauce does the trick like tabasco.
Few years back I was living off buffet leftovers from work and my roommate who just got out of the navy enlightened me to the glory of tabasco.

It's just not good with everything. Since it has a lot of vinegar, it goes well on fatty food. It's good to complement flavorful food that just needs a bit of heat and acidity. Some people say it's bland but I like the taste of the fermented peppers, no other hot sauce tastes like that.

They have growing operations all over the world now, as they produce much more sauce than they can locally grow peppers for.
It’s all locally salted/aged in their salt mine though.

Shit like Louisiana and Crystal cayenne hot sauces all taste exactly the same.

Tobasco has a unique vinegary flavor like you mentioned, and there isn't another sauce on most grocery store shelves with that same flavor.

Tobasco blows cholula out of the water on eggs and breakfast potato's etc. idk what the fuck Op's issue is he's a fucking MORON
