Got a new grill, a Weber S-345, and broke it in this weekend with a nice USDA Prime ribeye and some accompaniments.

The sear looks bad, the asparagus are burnt. Are those raw onions?

How do I improve the sear?

I got the grill to 600F and patted the steak dry and pushed on the seasoning. Only took 5 minutes to cook it.

Asparagus was over cooked but tasted good. I like some char on it. Onion was undercooked but I knew it would be. It alone is supposed to take 30 min to cook and was only on there for 15.

dont use thin steaks. one in the pic looks fine but wouldn't go much thinner. Maybe you didn't pat is dry enough or your coals were too far. I like to salt it 4-24 hours in advance, really dries out the surface.
Look at how guga does it he got great sears.

Some flareups like the video and my pic are fine but you have to keep moving the meat or else it will burn.
