Twisted tea is a million times better but still garbage as far as malt beverages go, you drink steels if you're depressed but not quite enough to kill yourself.

Popov is actually an awesome vodka for mixing, doesn't give you a headache like Absolut or Smirnoff.

Kirkland (Costco) vodka is great too. I prefer Russian standard (silver) or Stolichnaya if I'm drinking shots.

Actuslly the opposite, but palate is sensitive to alcohol, so Popov's and other similarly priced liquors are a no go for me. Svedka makes me gag into a sink.

I drank vodka for years but got too trashed because I wouldn't stop once I was fucked up. I can't drink Steel Reserve fast enough to slam down more than two or three in an evening, so I get a good drunk on without spiraling into being too trashed. well after awhile I just switched to cheap plastic bottle vodka handles since you can get like 36 or so drinks from it for $12 lol

after that though, I eventually started having withdrawals throughout the day. Like waking up in the morning in a full blown panic attack and then spending the rest of the day shaking, sweating, nervous and nauseous until I got off work and could get booze in my system. This really came to head when I couldn't get booze one night and had a withdrawal seizure (don't stop suddenly if your a heavy drinker, slowly cut down your intake or you may seize). Still drank afterwards, but the lingering threat of "Is this anxiety or a seizure coming on?" was eventually to much for me to take.

Still drink from time to time, as well as have the occasional weed edible (CA yay!), but my days of getting black out drunk every day are over.

For sleep (as my alcoholism was mostly a cure for my insomnia and depression) I am on remeron now which is a prescription antidepressant that is very helpful for sleep. Also, no caffeine past noon and I walk 6+ miles a day.

Its boring, but god damn the constant withdrawal and fear of another seizure was to much of a burden to continue carrying

Walking 6+ miles a day kills about 2 hours and I'll make it more fun by using the time to listen to podcasts and play pokemon go. After that will usually do some lifting as well. Body weight, kettlebells and so forth.

Also lots of reading, studying (went back to school) and trying to get back into the hobbies I forgot about while spending years in the bottle like video games, shooting and forth.

When I first got sober though I'd walk 12+ miles a day to just tire myself out and stay occupied.

Yea, I know the feeling. One of the biggest issues I had giving up drinking was the fact that I became an extremely boring person while drinking because I neglected so many hobbies in favor of just sitting at home and hitting the bottle.

So the challenge has switched from not just not drinking, but finding ways to make life fun again.

the non flavored steel reserve is probably the worst tasting beer i ever had in my life, and ive had it more than once to give it more tries, but i just can't handle that nasty flavor. although i do like the flavored ones like pineapple, fruit punch, etc.

i'll drink mickeys or four loko and it tastes ok, but something about original steel reserve is rancid.

i clearly remember the first time i ever tasted steel reserve with a friend, i had one and it tasted ugly, i only finished 60 percent of it and put it in the fridge and opted for some natural ice.

then one by one my friend started chugging the steel reserves pretty quickly. and then drank 2 of my natural ices. he was still walking around and not throwing up. i don't know how he can do that shit.
