No,they recommend when you can notice wear on the ends of bristles.

To be fair, ever since they removed the Health part from /fit/'s title "Health and Fitness", general self-care questions seem to be without a proper board. At the very least, this is the food board and dental hygiene is related to eating.

That said, I drink lots of vodka. That cleans out my system, and even cleans my teeth (I haven’t brushed in years, and haven’t had a cavity since).

My American dentist says i have horrible gum disease and need a 1500 dollar deep cleaning but my mexican dentist does not even know what that means and says my teeth are fine.
What is deep cleaning?

It means an oral surgeon should be doing your cleaning, ie more money because they're specialists about the dangers of the arteries that go directly to your heart, and can manage the aftercare. Oh and since he's an MD type of specialist that does anesthesia too, I betcha you can finagle your regular health insurance to cover it.

As far as I know, needing deep cleaning is 1 of 2 issues, 1 meaning you need more time to do a thorough job, so more than the 20 minutes a hygeniest would need to scrape an ordinary persons enamel, but more like double or triple the time, or 2 it means you have impacted plaque so far under the gumline, that it is like cement and a wedge pushing into the dentin, and since, and it harbors decay and further hurts the gums, they need to lift it up along all the gumline surfaces, ie surgery, to get the far reaches of it. For a while you will stay on antibiotics to protect your heart and keep bacteria down as the gums heal and hopefully readhere to the dentin.
It carries risk that one or two teeth will need further work because exposing the dentin may allow bacteria into the bone of your face, so you'll be doing washes and being really safe with your mouth for several weeks, but get your credt card out, because you will likely be spending a couple more thousand at your dentist in the months to come.
Should you skip the cleaning? No, but you need to know that money is the least of your concerns. It's a temporary window of danger you enter post-surgery, so pick the doctors really well based on their skill. I would ask your dentist specifically for his long term predictions of other work you may need to get done, and if he recommends an oral surgeon. if he hesitates, state you will be getting a second opinion, of course, but in a nice way. Get a copy of your xrays, so bring a burrnable CD or usb.

You're literally rubbing your mouth with a bacterial infectation. It would be better not to put that putrid pile of mold anywhere near your mouth and just take a shot of vodka like the other anon said.

a lot of whether you get cavities or not is due to what type of saliva you make. some people make a gummier saliva and have more teeth problems than those who don't. these people can do all the right things like brushing and flossing but still have more cavities than someone who does nothing
