I find american cuisine fascinating.

Imagine the mindset that takes one overly produced, overly fat, overly sweet, barely considered food produce and then combines it with another overly produced, overly fat, overly sweet, barely considered food produce and then uses the word "cooking" to describe that act and eats the resulting pile of sweet, mushy fat.

Not to hate on burgers and bbq sauce but recipes like mac and cheese with hot dogs or mayo covered salads the entire "buzzfeed kitchen" monstrosity, these confused ideas like a liquid "cheese"... they're completely alien ideas to me, nobody else in the world would think of something like a factory made hot dog as an ingredient for cooking, maybe outside of homeless in other countries, but in america this seems pretty popular and mainstream based on web presence.

Sometimes it's inspiring but mostly it's just completely insane.

Our food is mostly convenience. We eat it because we can right away or whenever we want. Not many Americans cook actual meals anymore that aren't frozen. Its rare that I meet someone that actually cooks.

Most food in America is over the top because it will get noticed and purchased because we are a very hyper capitalist nation. Remember the Unicorn Frappachino at Starbucks? It was terrible but everyone bought it because it was outrageous. It was something they could post on instagram to brag about or show off. Most of our food is gross and unhealthy and it takes alot for most Americans to come to realize that. The ones that don't or don't care are easy to spot because they are usually extremely overweight. I'm not saying all of it is bad but way more bad than good.

The "Irish-American" is my favourite. I used to drink in this really rough Irish pub in north London and one night some American dude came in all full of himself and how he was Irish and Erin go bragh and whatnot. Huh, well we have those too in the fresh meat section of the supermarket, but the canned/jarred ones are good too.
