Slap in the 84% pack for two weeks and don't open the humidor once during that time. After that put in either 69% or 72% with your cigars your call. One 60gram pack for up to 25 cigars. It should last a few months before you need a new one since most humidors aren't airtight.

For me, its the American Spirit Light Green. Shits last you 10 minutes, so you can smoke half and then save the rest for later. Doesn't take like chemicals or paper either. Here's one from last time I smoked. For the price I paid and the length/size and quality, these are some good bundle cigars.

Also here's something people here might want to try. Get a pack of non-flavoured toscanos and have one, either as a whole or chopped in half. Then immediately after, try another cigar. You'll instantly pick up on flavour profiles that sometimes take a while to develop or seem a bit muted.

It's trickier to cut with a knife because you need to do it in one swift motion. If you're trying to save money, first, a cigar cutter is pretty cheap and usually they hand out free ones when you buy cigars. Second, you can get one of those three in one cigar punches, that I use almost all of the time instead. I like to consider myself an expert in the "not so cheap that you'll vomit but under 2$ per" cigars. My favorite actual cheap budget cigars are Cuba Libre One, La Aurora 1495, and most things Padilla. You can easily find packs of Cuba Libre on cigarbid (usually freefall) for around 25-35 for a pack of 20, so those are the cheapest. Padilla and La Aurora are usually in the mid to high 40s for a box, and are very worth it imo. Ive never paid more than 80$ for a box in my life.

they decided that tobacco was too icky for them. they sold the pipe tobacco trademarks to peterson, who renewed the production contract with STG so the blends didn't change only the labels. they spun off the pipe division into 'white spot pipes'. the cigar lines disappeared entirely.

fortunately, when dunhill did this they wound up releasing mcconnell from their old non-competes. mcconnell had blended the dunhill tobaccos back in the 1960's and 1970's, and once dunhill was gone they hauled the recipe books out of the safe, tweaked them for modern tobaccos (some varietals aren't available, tobacco quality in general has gone down) and introduced a whole suite of dunhill-equivalent blends. many of these aren't even being made by STG for peterson, and the ones that are the mcconnell versions are higher quality because the recipes date back before the bean counters started cheaping out.

>> No.16217101

Smoke shouldn't be anywhere near your throat. You're not jamming smoke in your gullet like cocks, you're letting the cherry of the cigar vaporize and release oils from the next ~inch of tobacco. Combusting leaves is part of the process, not the goal. Thats why you "toast" a cigar instead of just dipping it into the flame outright. Puff less, puff softer. The ash on the tip lets the cherry cool down a bit, facilitating oils releasing. It shouldn't be a coal, its an ember.

they work perfectly. you can keep tobacco in there for decades as long as you aren't opening it all the time. if you're smoking it relatively often then transfer some of it to a smaller mason jar, because obviously you lose moisture each time you open it. but left sealed they're at least as good as a round tin, and probably better.

just make sure you get jars and lids meant for canning, not ones for decoratively holding colored pebbles and keys in. that means ball mason jars in the US, I don't know what options lesser nations have.

I took a big drag and without thinking just auto piloted and inhaled the whole lot deep and fast.

You are close-minded. Not everyone consumes these things for the effect. To your surprise, many actually consume it because of the taste. Theres no reason that we seek out to get good wine or expensive coffee just because of the effects. We do that because of the taste. The same applies to cigars - you're just too inexperienced to know that cigars offer an immensely broad variety of flavors, much like coffee.

Hey anon, fellow bong, I tried some nice cigars a few months back, and have been much in love, but, also realised fuck smoking cigars if I can't buy them from the UK. I was looking at getting a pipe and some tobacco online, any recommendations? I want something with a nice bit of flavour, mind, not cheap addict shit.

>> No.16224664

I'd recommend starting with a Missouri meerschaum corn cob pipe, they're cheap as hell and are pretty forgiving for newbies. If you take a shine to the hobby then you can move onto something more solid like a falcon pipe.

As far as tobacco I'd recommend getting a sample pack as you cant try different types of tobacco and see if anything catches your attention so you can by more next time. (this is the one i got https://www.cgarsltd.. co.uk/staff-picks-liams-mixed-pipe-tobacco-sampler-10g-p-39061.html) Also I'd steer clean of aromatics blends as they sound temping but burn hot and can be unforgiving to new pipers.

As for technique it takes time and a bit of adjusting. Unlike cigars pipe tobacco release flavor in a different way its a lot more subtle and that takes skill. I'd recommend muttonchop piper's vids (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3spD-ASQds&t=304s))

Good luck and happy piping! :)

The flavour is exactly it. I also do enjoy the smoke and other aspects of it in a visual and tactile sense but the primary reason is the flavour. Cigars can taste very different to each other, even within the same region and categories and they by and large mostly all taste pretty good.

What do folks here think of Quorums? I'm a pipe smoker an the sticker price for any sort of daily driver still puts me off. I've found them to be generally alright but I also feel like I've not developed a palette for cigars yet. They're alright but I find the construction on them to be pretty subpar compared to some other budget cigars out there. I still keep some around just due to the cost of all three varieties. Mostly one good one and then a load of bundles but I'm on a bit of a health kick at the moment, so while I'm not going to stop smoking, I'm gonna cut it back to maybe one to three a week. I don't think it's been especially bad for me, but might as well. It's a good way to test if I am addicted too. So far, it's been two weeks without a smoke and I haven't felt any cravings.

The wrapper color isn't necessarily a good indication of a cigar's strength. While the wrapper and to a lesser extent, the binder contribute the most to a cigar's flavor, the filler leaves are what tend to contribute most to a cigar's strength. A higher concentration of Ligero leaves as filler will lead to a stronger cigar body. A maduro wrapper tends to give a cigar a more earthy profile - sometimes accompanied by leather and cocoa flavors but a lot of it comes down to the type of leaf, the specific aging method used to treat the leaf, etc and there is a lot of variation.

the usual answer is spain and england colonized different regions with wildly different strains of tobacco, and due to a combination of this and being mortal enemies consequently developed very different tobacco products.

the strictly correct answer is they are, or at least burley is: italian cigars (cheroots) such as are mentioned here >>16214416 here >>16214422 and here >>16217060 are usually 100% burley.

dry cured cigars made from burley used to be quite common in the US, as they are made from inexpensive tobaccos and don't need a humidor or special tools. until quite recently spanish style cigars were the domain of the very well-off, there's a reason the old political cartoons always showed a fat cat capitalist with a spanish style cigar.

the tobacco was originally burley from kentucky. a few decades ago the italians found a region in italy that could grow it successfully and have the right size and taste, so now they're using italian grown-and-cured burley. but no, it's not south american in the slightest. afaik the style of cigar actually originated in the US and made its way to italy through the back-and-forth immigrant traffic. toscano's have only recently been imported into the US, but I can remember in the 70's and 80's you could find a half dozen brands of fire cured burley cigars at wal-greens and CVS, under names like "avanti" "parodi" "de nobili" "kentucky cheroot" and the amusingly faggy "ramrod".
>>16226539
nope. smoke them more or less like any other cigar. the main difference is it's traditional to cut them in half "amezzato", the way they're rolled they won't come apart from this. sometimes they're already cut by the factory, e.g. "toscano" cigars are full-length but "toscanello" cigars are already cut in half.

not that I know of. I don't know when that type of cigar was invented, but the spanish explorers mention seeing something meeting that description among the indians. it's little more than a chunk of leaf rolled up into a cylinder, the main innovation from that original construction would be the vegetable glue to hold it all together.

and those spaghetti westerns weren't what you would call historically accurate *anywhere*...

non-cubans have successfully competed against cubans on the world market at least since the embargo.

>> No.16230670

doubtful. cubans weren't the end-all-be-all before the embargo, and they won't be afterwards. cubans will actually probably lose some of their distinctiveness since they'll finally have access to actual connecticut shade grown wrapper again. embargo cubans don't taste like pre-embargo cubans due to the change in wrapper.

cubans have a somewhat different taste from the other new world cigars, but it isn't necessarily a better taste unless you just *really* like that particular taste, and some non-cuban cigars have the same taste as cubans, there's a lot of overlap nowadays between the flavors of cubans and non-cubans. a lot of the cuban mystique in the US is simply due to the relative scarcity. Davidoff switched from cubans to alternative sources decades after the embargo and had no problems selling them in non-US markets at $30-100/stick. I used to work with a guy with a german wife who regularly brought cubans back from europe, I'd occasionally trade him tins of aged pipe tobaccos for cubans. i liked his partagas lonsdales the best, but they wouldn't be in my top 5, and if the embargo lifted I doubt I'd wind up with more than a handful of them in my humidor.
