Can someone please explain the hype? Because I just don't get it. I had In N Out once a couple of years ago when I went to California, and waited in line for 20 minutes, for what ended up being a very stock standard burger. It tasted good, don't get me wrong, but it was literally no better than your generic American cheeseburger. What's the deal?

Californian culture.
Just like Whataburger is Texan culture.

same deal as white castle - they taste better stoned.

same here in-n-out, and white castles are meh.

Good value burger. Not astounding but good for the price, nothing more.

Mcdonalds used to taste about that good, so in its quest for absolute rock bottom cult classics took over it's previous appeal.

White Castle I can at least understand because it is fairly different to a regular burger, but In N Out has literally nothing special about it

It's higher quality than a McDonalds burger, which is what most people think of as your "generic American cheeseburger", but it's also half the price. It's still a mediocre fast food burger, but I think the appeal is more about the value. And I've never spent anywhere near 20 minutes in line, even when it was 15 cars long; they're kind of all about efficiency. Still, I'm not a California native and do not at all understand the hype and brand loyalty some people out here have for it. It's just a well done fast food burger. No amount of secret menu modifications are going to change that.

Better than any other fast food drive thru burger out there yet cheaper more convenient than a five guys, shake shack, mooyah, etc.

I've lived in California all 32 years of my life and yeah I love in n out but I'm not going to act like it's the best burger of any restaurant out there it's just the best fast food burger by a wide margin.

Where I live it's something like $2.50 for a cheeseburger and $1.75 for fries. It's cheaper than McDonalds while tasting like real food.
The long lines exist despite an insane rate of customer throughput because the value is unbeatable. So the hype is deserved, but everyone who makes a special pilgrimage to one doesn't understand why.
The fries are controversial because they just cut fresh potatoes directly into a fryer, which doesn't create the usual crisp fast food fry. I like them, but then again I grew up eating them.

F-tier fries.

You're missing the point. In-n-Out costs less than places like McDonalds', Wendy's, Jack in the Box, etc. while kicking the shit out of them in terms of both the quality of the food and the quality of the service and that's where the argument begins and ends. A double-double won't send you into an eternal orgasmic afterlife as soon as you bite into it but it absolutely mogs to death the basic double cheeseburger from any other chain and out of the scores of times I've eaten at various In-n-Outs over the course of my life I can't remember them ever fucking up one of my orders in any way.

It's the chick fil-a of beef burger chains(family owned business that's ironically conservative despite being CA). It's good food at a good price with decent service. It's also cheaper than most fast food chains(not counting dollar menu sloppa's)

>> No.16166013

in addition to the many points listed by anons the fact that the chain is not obsessed with expansion is also part of the appeal. i live east of the mississippi and can only get in-n-out if i go visit my friend in LA, so it's a real treat

>Can someone please explain the hype?
1. phenomenal quality to price ratio, utterly BTFOs every other chain (THIS IS THE MAJOR REASON)
2. good sauce
3. did you ask for animal style?
4. staff are paid decently well and provide higher quality service than any other chain

obviously it's not going to be an incredible burger, it's fast food. But considering what it achieves, it completely shits on the competition. Don't believe me? There's not such thing as a McDonalds near an in n out, they don't have the balls to open one up next to them but will for any other chain

I live a couple blocks from one. Great food for the price but even then I usually only go two or three times a year. If you believe the hype you're gonna be disappointed.

>> No.16169174

Everyone's already really said it, but for the cost and speed, it's a fresh tasting burger that's probably better than any other fast food joint.

But yeah, at certain times of day, the time you have to wait isn't worth the cost savings. I normally only go at night after some drinking.

>> No.16170181

Did you get it "animal style'? Brings extra spread and grilled onions. By itself yeah it's only ok, I think animal style makes it pretty top tier and one of a kind

This post explains it well, but if I had to add one thing it's also their consistency, it's not the most amazing burger you'll ever have, but damn is it at minimum a 7/10 every time.

It's literally the best bang for your buck fast food burger. Mcdicks and burger shit are trash, and wendys/carls jr/ jack in the box are too expensive for how garbage they are. In n out blows all of these out of the water all while staying at a very competitive price. If you want a fast food burger, in n out is the best choice. If you disagree with this, you're a tastelet and a retard.
