I worked at a Walmart distribution center for three years. Every monthly associate meeting was centered around how they're competing with amazon, and Walmart is buying every other online retailer in existence. Fun fact; Walmart doesn't even make money from grocery sales, profit comes from everything else. If you look into how Amazon cucked whole foods, you have youre answer. I know that whole paycheck is a hipster meme store, but they used to have really good bonus payouts and benefits, and the founder was a decent guy who actually cared about his employees. I knew a whole foods butcher who made an extra $300 a week in the summer from department sales.

Any form of Silicon Valley style automation will inevitably rape the working class to the benefit of the middle and upper managerial classes. These automations could be uplifting us all by no longer requiring menial labor to be performed and for the ensuing generated value to be distributed among the furloughed workers. Instead they line the pockets of the exorbitant wealth of the upper classes while making us beg for scraps. Reddit bugmen who only see growth as good ignore this framing.

Walmart warehouses are the same. They track your production by X amount of cases per hour depending on which area you're in. If you're under 95% production, you get a write up. The guys in shipping have to hand stack 3000 fucking cases per hour inside hot ass trailers. You normally get a cost of living wage increase every year, until they announced that we were competing too much with amazon and couldn't afford a raise that year....oh and also you have to be at 100% production, not 95%.
Our GM actually said "we're in a fight right now, and when you're in a fight you don't give 95%, you give 100%".

Amazon is on a downward trend in quality thanks to shitty supply chain management, so I doubt it.

Prime Delivery is spotty as to whether or not it will be in the two day window (even if it's a promise date when you order). It seems like 90% of what is sold on the site is questionable Chinese garbage and I have serious doubts about their supply chain security as a result.

I find myself more inclined to shop at big box stores again for certain things precisely because I don't trust the Amazon supply chain.

I doubt they could really manage a grocery store and keep fresh, decent produce and goods in stock.

It's a complete tragedy. Any leftist contigent who can get their voice heard seems to have been subverted by corporate interests. All these people who will claim to be liberal, leftist, egalitarian and yet they're perfectly accepting and welcoming of large corporations like Amazon laying the groundwork for a monopoly and dystopia. I don't understand how these people, who should know better, become enamored with these comapnies and corporations. It's as if they think they're the good guys and on their side (HOW in the name of god) against their government and national politics. What they don't realise is that corporations have become the new nation state - politics now is about the interest of private companies, not the individual country.

Same thing for Walmart warehouses bro. I started as an order filler (label package and put it on conveyor) 470 cases per hour was the rate when when i quit. Doesn't matter what it is either. Winter was fucking hell in those modules. It wasn't uncommon to throw 1000 heavy ass cases of antifreeze in a 10 hour shift.
>They eventually put a rate on fuckin everything though
Sounds the exact same man. It gets demoralizing after a while, feeling like you're always under a microscope.
>Management constantly rotate around so every new asshole wants it his way.
Yup, it's mandatory for them to rotate every year. I got lucky though, I transfered to non-conveyable order filling hand stacking pallets of shit that can't go on a conveyor. Smallest crew in the entire warehouse so management mostly left us alone, supervisor was actually a really nice guy and they never made him transfer.

No it was more lenient, three steps, all in different categories, and they take 6 months to fall off. Attendance, safety, procedure, and production.
It takes three write ups to get to a Step 1, two more for a Step 2, one more for Step 3, and thats your last chance. So 7 writeups per categorie, for example you can be on a Step 3 for production, and a Step 3 for attendance at the same time.
But here's the shitty part; they have ten thousand different rules and they make up new ones all the time. If someone wants you gone, all they have to do is follow you around for a couple days. Guaranteed you'll be breaking rules to make production, if some manager doesn't like you, he will find reasons to write you up.
