Retard here, ive never made sourdough but I'm gonna try it today
Is there any chance that I'll die from botulism if I fuck it up?

If you bake it the proper amount of time, all that bacteria should be dead or inactive. Use common sense and it should be good. Enjoy your loafs!

100% chance of dying, and not a peaceful easy death too, we are talking months of painful diarrhea, swollen limbs and teeth falling out. You will basically become british.

Botulism is an anaerobic thing, usually from canned food that wasn't sterilized.

It'll probably be something other than botulism.

If your starter smells funky, you're probably dying due to mold or some shitty bacteria anyways, might as well do it while fucking up some bread.

The only way you could risk anything is using fresh yeast that has been sitting in your fridge for too much time

lol a few weeks ago youre fine anon just cook the bread to 190f.
and remember that civil war soldiers eating mouldy grain would sometimes benefit because of the naturally occurring penicillin that the mycelium produce throughout the item. mushrooms are the sex body of the underlying structure

I often eat moldy bread or cheese cos im too lazy and usually always forget them for long time and they are already fucked up when I decide I want to eat them, so I just cut off the mold and just go with the flow...I know there's still shit inside even if you can't see it, but im taking the risk, so far I'm doing good
I think I might literally die from laziness one day

Just add a teaspoon of lactic acid powder to your dough, same thing grocery store delis do.

Or, make a thin batter of yeast, water, flour, white miso, and sugar, then stick it in your fridge for a few days. Or even stick it in a warm oven for a few hours. Use it like sourdough starter.
