If I don't have a gas range is this suitable for heating a wok up for stir fry?

It'll certainly work, but be careful re: CO and propane leaks. Pretty sure those are meant for outdoor use.

Yeah and the guy currently trending on /ck, the chinese professional teaching chef guy has a video on how to cook with a wok at home using a heat source like this.

Yes, I have that exact model and it’s great for cooking in a (smallish) wok. It gets hotter than the vast majority of actual gas ranges. The gas cartridges are dirt cheap and can be found at any Asian store or online.

The good Japanese ones like in OP pic are good for both indoor and outdoor. The back of mine specifically says “rated for indoor and outdoor use”.
It’s butane, not propane (which allows for higher temp); and the locking cartridge system basically makes leaks due to poor connection impossible.

Bootytane Burner if you know what im saying

That particular burner, yes.

Not all butane hobs are equal; for a wok you probably want at least 15000 BTU.

If you can wok outdoors, you may have better luck with a charcoal chimney starter adapted into a rocket stove. Less convenient, but higher heat.

WTF is with the 8" wok these days? JUST today I wanted one so I could toss a few pot stickers after they caramelized. A new revolution. The 1500Watt cure.

those grills are shit, and are only good for keeping food warm. You are better off making your own, or buying the steel ones if you actually want to cook and continue long term

Okay, anon.

These disintegrate if you live in a humid area. Extremely poorly built, and they're so small you can only cook a few small pieces of meat. Get a proper charcoal weber grill and you can cook larger meats and veg longer and even bake/smoke if needed.

Just buy an electric wok.

>> No.16105808

Webers are usually too big, it keeps the skewers too far from the heat as a result. Good yakitori really depends on the food being within about 6 inches of the coals.

>> No.16105936

If your wok isn't too big then yes. But please clean after each use as it gets coated in gunk very easily.

>> No.16106985

i just bought one because of this thread

Read the post again you monkey. Make your own or buy a steel one. The ones in the picture are prone to cracking and won't last as long.

It isn’t the grill’s fault you can’t manage to keep yourself from breaking shit.
