Alright, I'm trying to save money, I wanna make my own beer. Is it cheaper than buying? I buy craft shit, it usually comes out to $3-4 a bottle buying at the store. The recipient I'm most excited about brewing is this https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/dog-fish-head-midas-touch.71861/

Rather thinking Im just getting old, we're moving further and further apart and are too busy to hang as regularly. Someone takes you to their haunts around their town, they usually pick up the tab, as do I. I don't think it's that weird.

I guess if you see these people like twice a year then it's not obscene, but if I just want to hang out with my friends and we happen to decide to meet at a bar, it makes no sense to me to everyone not to pay equally. From what I know about drinking culture:
USA - buy your own or split the bill evenly when checking out
Ireland - one person buys per round, where everyone ends up buying a round

Where are you from and how old are you? How much are you drinking at these meetings?

> Is it cheaper than buying?
In the long run, yes. But there are start-up costs.
5gal carboy: $35
2 dozen bomber bottles: 50
Capper: 20ish
Large boiling pot: 40-50
Assorted stoppers, caps, and tubes: 20

If you go with malt extract and hops plus a bottling charge, the cost for ingredients is ~50 bucks a batch. That will yield ~3 gallons of beer.

If you're going to mash grain, the costs for a lauter tun and other doo-dads goes up quickly, but your of course get more control

>2 dozen bomber bottles: 50
Who the fuck buys bottles? Just save them. I mean, most people thinking about getting into brewing drink beer.
>50 fucks a batch will yield ~3 gallons
That's really on the high end for just a 3 gallon batch.
>bottling charge
wut?
