Are we talking home or commercial hood vents? Commercial hood vents are required by law for any gas-fueled kitchen device as a safety measure, and for good reason.

I'd also say that every hood vent I've ever had in my home kitchens has at least done a fair job of keeping steam from collecting in my kitchen.

It's true they're especially high right now, but home prices will always be high. Maybe they'll ebb and flow a bit but it's no longer entirely up to Wallstreet. There are billions of people in Asian countries with new money looking for safe stores of wealth abroad. There's a constant supply of buyers who will pay cash for property in the US. Compounded by zoning restrictions due to nimbyism, and its virtually always a sellers market. Over in Europe the just build affordable housing apartment blocks for working class folks. Over here in the US your options are to be homeless or commute at least 2 hours a day, unless you inherited a good location or are rich or won the affordable housing lottery
