Tom Collins:

2 ounces Dry gin
1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Club soda, to top
some ice
Garnish: lemon wheel
Garnish: maraschino cherry

I'd recommend spending some money on buying small bottles of tonnes of different shit and trying them all. Whiskey, gin, vodka, absinthe, port, sherry, literally anything that takes your fancy
I wouldnt bother buying anything fancy, or too expensive while you're not used to alcohol. When I started drinking I couldn't really tell the difference between cheaper run of the mill whiskeys, and 18year aged $100 a bottle whiskeys
Also try shit with different mixers or stuff added in, experiment and you'll find what you like

Daiquiri: Just shake 2 parts rum, 1 part lime juice, 1 part simple syrup (rather less syrup) and a few ice cubes. Very refreshing and masking the alcohol very well. Also dirt cheap and the ingredients are easy to get.

I'm lazy so when I don't want just vodka, I just make simple three ingredient flavored martinis. 2 parts vodka, 1 part triple sec, and 2 parts any flavored liquer. Sour apple schnapps or limoncello are my favorites.

I also like spiked Arnold Palmers. Just brew some black tea, chill it in the fridge, and then mix it to taste with limoncello.

The original version of the Mai Tai is god-tier.

2 oz aged rum
0.5 oz orange liqueur
0.75 oz lime juice
0.25 oz orgeat syrup
0.25 oz sugar syrup

Shake with crushed ice and open pour into an old-fashioned glass, with a sprig of mint as a garnish (don't skip the mint, the aromatic element is important).

I skipped Campari and vermouths because I've been playing with them a lot these past few months, might grab some vermouth at a local shop if I need it. Was really tempted by the VEP Chartreuse since I love Chartreuse but it's $200, a bit steep.

Place near me gets these for under $20 USD, and its my absolute favorite go to. I know there's better at higher price points, but this shit slaps

Burn all of the alcohol you know the name of already, because it's shit. Pick a member of each respective family of liquor, beer, and wine at a similar price of what you've heard of. They will be less shit, and you've got better than basic bitch recommendations to give out.

Whiskey, I hit Knob Creek and Big Bottom Barlow Trail (sherry casked, though this is rare).
Vodka, it's all functionally the same. Sobieski is cheap, tastes good enough, and doesn't fuck up the next day.
Tequila, Lunazul for cheap and Tres Generaciones are great.
Gin, Boodles is great, Tanqueray is acceptable.
Rum, as far as I'm concerned it's all mildly acceptable. Buy some fucking Bacardi and be done with it, along with a dark and a spiced rum to feel out the 3 varieties. Don't buy Myer's rum, ever.
Scotch, I'm not terribly well versed in. Johnny Walker Double Black is famous, and I love it. Ask others for better, or pick a few random bottles.
Liqueurs are made to be mixed, but a few are good on their own. Honorable mentions to Cointreau and Grand Marnier, both 40% ABV triple sec.

Wine, do better than $20 and you're getting something that probably isn't dog shit. If you have one, find a dedicated wine store with a guy who can recommend wine for you. If your wine has crystals, it's fancy.

Beer, drink a couple of each style. IPA's are either citrusy or gassy, I recommend citrusy if you don't want to feel like someone shit in your mouth. Domestics are either piss beer or bread beer, meaning they have no flavor, or they taste like bread in liquid form. I've got a special place in my heart for stouts and porters, it's like drinking coffee without the caffiene.

Seltzers and the like are best replaced by vodka and an off the shelf seltzer. If you can't do that, they are all made to be basic bitch accessible.

this is bad advice, focused on posturing

It isn't bad advice, go try anything you've heard of in media compared to a random unheard of bottle, and it will be either shit or watered down for its' price point.

Rum in general is just adulterated sugar distillate, and not adulterated in the way things like whiskey and scotch are. I don't have a taste for it, others do.

I don't have thousands of dollars to dump into a few bottles, domestic and less sought after international liquors are enough so scotch is left for special occasions.

>> No.16068367

>>16068357
you have no idea about liquor and shouldn't be giving advice brashly like this, honestly. i understand this lack of commensurate experience for commentary is probably a pervasive and running issue with you

some advice: talk less.

>I don't have thousands of dollars so I can't buy scotch
that's weird because i just bought oban 14 for 69 dollaridoos and it's probably the best scotch i've ever had.

you are posturing and are a teenager.
