Is it safe to eat literal grass?

I am in a bad spot right now financially. Haven't had a job in a while. I live in a house with 5 other roomates. Money is tough so I eat a lot of ramen and cheaper salty shit. One of my roomates tends the front lawn really well and I was wondering is it healthy to eat grass at all? I feel like I need something to balance all the salt I eat

No, and you cant really live off of common wild forages either due to high oxilic acid content.

Here's some free forages that are readily available right now that can help fill the gaps though:
Chickweed (SUPER common, can be eaten raw or cooked. Cook if you eat in large quantities)
woodsorrel (only eat in moderation)
dandelion (all parts are edible, if young greens are bitter, blanch them to get rid of the bitterness)
Ostrich fern fiddleheads (blanch and then fry, inedible raw)

Common lawn grass is inedible. During the great Irish potato famine some people were desperate enough to try to eat grass. Their corpses had green stained mouths.

>>16023740
For 20 dollars a week, live on rice, beans, oats potatoes, and eggs. Find cheap lard for cooking fat. If you have extra money get cabbage and chicken/pork. You can also look into dumpster diving. Lots of perfectly good produce, baked goods, and other foods get tossed regularly. I knew a guy who actually would pull out still frozen and still edible pizza and ice cream. Good luck friend.

I'm sorry you're in such a sore spot.

Lentils, lentils, lentils, my friend. Tomato sauce and coconut milk in there with them if you can afford it. They are cheap, high fiber, high protein, and lots of vitamins. See what kind of ethnic stores you can find nearby- I get basically a pillow of lentils from a local Indian store for $5 and eat my fill for weeks. "Masoor Dal" is the operative word.

If all else fails, cabbage is like 99 cents a head and has a TON of nutrients. Fresh produce may be your lifeline in the meantime.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. Second to legumes then, I would strongly recommend rice, and the cheapest produce. (Again, indian, mexican, caribbean stores usually have the cheapest stuff.) Onions and potatoes may be diced and baked for a satisfying meal, top with any spices or sauces you may have.

Eggs are a cheap and bioavailable protein, and eggs and rice with potatoes and onions is a solid and versatile combo. Sweet potatoes will ramp up nutrients too.

Don't be too proud to check food banks, friend.

Also! Simple soups. Buy a thing of stock for like $1.29. Throw in any vegetables, salt, a little fat. Pasta if you have it.

Oats are my last advice. Cheap. Nutritious. Can be made into burger-like things. Can be added to watery soup for bulk. If you add a pinch of salt to oatmeal it is infinitely better than just sweet.

I know this sounds disgusting as fuck, but try some dumpsters.
Not just any dumpsters you sicko, drive 20 minutes to the nice side of town and get behind a sprouts or something.
Any vegetables that look bad they have to toss. Many of them are still edible. I'd never take meat or dairy but there are so many vegetables that are good to eat still that they can't sell. Not fruit.
Pick the fruit. I live in AZ and I walk/ drive past citrus everywhere. Take a handful. As long as you're not an asshole with a basket clearing the whole tree, no one cares.
Find different ways to cook beans and rice with your free fruits and vegetables. Then you buy meat. Not what you want you poor fuck, you get what's on sale. Pork, bone in chicken, whatever. Sometimes you can get 10 lbs of meat for under $20 (pork shoulder). Eat half during the week and freeze half for a few weeks down the road.
On Tuesdays we go to Dell taco. 39cent tacos. 5 bucks gets you 12. You can stretch those 3 days with rice and beans. 60 hotsauces is 5 per taco, which most of will be used on your rice and bean filler. Or just mix it all together and put some government cheese on it you sick fuck. Don't ask for the sauces in the drive-thru, they start to get angry. Take a little from each table inside so no one notices.
Lastly, leftovers. Visit your friends, family, hell even pay attention to your roommates inventory. They're going to have stuff that's going bad or that they're sick of eating for days. There are tactful ways to clean out the fridge or take extra waste off their hands. I love leftovers because I can turn them into another dish like magic.
It's hard man but you can get through.
I don't eat like this anymore but I had to once.
Also if you can afford internet, you can eat. Get your priorities straight.

theres a surprisingly high number of things you can eat just by foraging as long as youre not surrounded by nothing but city. grass is a no go, but i rec looking up foraging guides and going into the woods around where you live and just stocking up on food. it wont be any gourmet, but itll be a lot better than stuffing yourself with ramen thatll just give you malnutrition after a while. also get ready for a lot of new weirder flavors, you might get used to them after some time. if youre up for it, maybe even try a light spot of hunting and if you have a yard try growing some of your own foods, and if not get a tomato plant in a pot since those can be pretty handy. and if youre really at the absolute bottom with no other options, bugs are surpisingly healthy, lots of protein for their size and very very abundant. just might not taste very good, or like anything at all. i know a lil salt can make some of them taste great, but if youre eating bugs from no money then the last thing you want to do is spend what little money you have on salt when you could buy fruit or seeds to grow something.

If you want to eat grass here's what you need to do. Go to a farm with cattle. kill a cow, start digging into it's abdomen (now it'll take a while you read the other directions), search for it's third stomach, before that the grass isn't digested enough, after and it'll burn you(it's too acidic), cut out the third stomache, zip tie the holes closed, bring that sucker home, dump it in the fridge and you have enough ready to digest grass for 10 days!

>Pretending ramen is cheap
A loaf of bread isn't far off a pack of ramen for the price.

Bread+peanut butter will get you some protein and fat.
A bag of oats will go a long way and isnt far off from 1 ramen serving in price.

Ramen is literally worthless and not even that cheap, nutritional value of zero.

If you have a cheap tube of tomato puree + milk + salt + pepper then you can make easy sauce for everything, or soup.
It's the key to making prime slop.
Im poorfagging right now and I always have a tube of tomato puree.

You change the ratios and it becomes suitable for everything. Put it in water and you have soup. Leave it thick so that it just sticks to fried meat in the pan, or add a little more milk and it's like a curry sauce that spreads over onto the rice.

You can't fuck it up.

nutritionally almost-worthless, and fieldgrasses tend to have silicates in their composition that would make chewing them destructive to your teeth in a way that food isn't. Agricultural societies formed as a consequence of the nutritional surplus provided by the invention of cereal-grain cultivation, but they ate the wheatberries, the endosperm, the seeds of fieldgrasses like barley, not the greens that would grow into "stalks". Worthless and is detrimental in the literal same way that chewing sandpaper might be.

seek out foodpantry resources in your local metro. I guarantee there's at least some of them, you are the exact person they're meant to help, and they're stocked with plenty of good readytoeat shelfstable food. Often, it can be perfectly good, but have ended up in a program like this by some capitalist quirk of supplychain-inefficiency. I've never gone to one of these places in-person, but I've gone on my local craigslist-free and picked up from multiple people who clearly received the same resources.
Sometimes they're church-run, sometimes they're distributed at local schools at certain hours, in my (large Midwestern) city many of these resources are known to give away gallons of milk and other bulk-quantities of dairy products (yay subsidies!) like yogurt cheese butter and sourcream etc.

tldr don't eat grass, no benefit. carrots are 99 cents.
