What alcohol strikes the best balance of not getting you fat, not skyrocketing your tolerance, but still being a good time? Sprits make it difficult to drink at a decent pace throughout something, light beer still seems packed with calories for what you actually get in terms of a buzz.

I'm two months sober and when I get back to it, I want to drink more responsibly. During the pandemic I was easily tanking 24 beers in a day, and before that it wouldn't be out of the realm of a normal day drinking Saturday with friends to have like 15 beers and 7 shots or something.

I'm looking to get to that point where every time I decide to drink, I'm looking more at like 6 drinks as the high end.

>> No.15906649

alcohol is alcohol. there's no cheating your way around increasing your tolerance while still getting drunk.
as far as volume / calories goes, wine is a nice middle ground between beer and spirits.

Most of the calories come from the alcohol itself, which limits your options when you still want to get a buzz.
Something with low sugar content, like whisky with a sugar free mixer.

It's just so hard to make last. Sitting at a table with 4 dudes drinking beer at a beer's pace makes it hard to just sip at whiskey. Goes down quick.

>>15906649
I also plan to be drinking less days overall. Wine is what I was thinking was probably optimum. If I can call it quits at the end of a bottle, I'll have a good buzz and only have wasted like 650 calories for the rest of the day.

It's really not the calories in hard liquor that make you gain weight, it's how much energy your body has to expend on burning through the liquor that it doesn't burn through any fat. If you eat a cheeseburger and a coke your body will burn through all of it at roughly the same rate. If you have a cheeseburger and a shot of bourbon the body focuses solely on the bourbon and the fat from the burger just accumulates.

There's no "balance", the only factor in all three of those things is the amount of alcohol. There isn't some special type of alcohol that has lower calories, lower impact on your tolerance, or gets you drunk quicker

if you want to drink for a bit more of an extended time, get a kick but not too hard, the best bet is one or two hard liquor drinks and a small pile of low alc % beers.

You are apparently technically correct, but if glycerol gets lumped in with carbohydrates in a nutritional setting, it seems bizarre and inconsistent that ethanol wouldn't be. It is, in all practical effect, a carbohydrate.

>As used in foods, glycerol is categorized by the U.S. Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as a carbohydrate. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carbohydrate designation includes all caloric macronutrients excluding protein and fat.
>Ethanol is similar to macronutrients such as proteins, fats, and carbohydrates in that it provides calories. When consumed and metabolized, it contributes 7 calories per gram via ethanol metabolism.

>if you think sobriety sucks, you probably shouldnt be drinking
This seems backwards. It's not like every waking moment of sobriety sucks, but going sober for an extended amount of time or what would permanently sucks. Can't go to parties, can't share a few beers with your old man, can't go for a post-work beer with the guys, can't go out to hit on girls and socialize... I can go on. There's just so much simple normal life stuff you can't do and enjoy with others when you need to avoid alcohol.

I've been doing nothing but sitting on my ass in my house and exercising/jerking off for two months. I look good but no one has seen it. Life is miserable and boring.

Forgot to answer the rest of that. I know the pandemic isn't over, but the period of wide-scale shutdowns and 100% lockdown except for emergencies is over. I can meet someone for a meal, people are getting their jobs back, I can go to a bar.

And a variety of beers. During the peak pandemic it was just swilling down light beer all day but in any other situation I just mix it up.

>What alcohol strikes the best balance of not getting you fat, not skyrocketing your tolerance, but still being a good time?
You want a drink that has a low alcohol/volume ratio and is low in sugar.

I recommend the Japanese Style Whisky Highball

>whisky highball
Low alcohol/volume ratio with no added sugar. You can order one anywhere and the ingredients are easy to find. A whisky highball at its worst is drinkable and refreshing. A good one is a wonderful experience. You can't really screw up the simplicity.

>Japanese style
The Japanese take a simple drink and perfect it. Look into their methods and you'll see plenty of room for home experimentation to fine tailor it to your tastes. Also, you don't have to use Japanese whisky, find a whisky/soda combination you like. I recommend learning to make clear ice at home as well to help the drink melt slower and be colder.

https://imbibemagazine.com/japanese-whisky-highball/

I also take this approach with bitters to make a Japanese Style Bitters Highball but I realize not everyone likes such strong flavors.

Wine is a good choice OP but DO NOT drink it at the same pace as beer or you will have a bad time.

Vodka/tequila + club soda was my go to drink for the social situations you're describing, but that is mostly because I don't enjoy vodka or watered down tequila. If I don't like the drink, I drink slower and naturally pace myself.

Go russian mode, vodka with pickles, rye bread, cured meats. The flavor has to be intense. Go with scallions, raw garlic, sprats/sardines, smoked cured meats, make sure the rye bread is the right kind (the best is a brick of borodinsky, sourdough rye bread with coriander, not the shit that's sold in most grocery stores). You'd be surprised but this is comfy, the effects of the alcohol will be spread out more because of the food, and the food itself won't make you obese: pickles have practically no calories, rye bread is actually pretty good for you, garlic and onions are just veggies, cured meats and sprats are worse but at least they have no carbs

Never heard this before. So does alcohol help you retain gains?

>> No.15914224

>>15914107
No. The "gains" you make in muscle mass are solely earned by burning off fat and carbs through exercise. If you just chug liquor after eating all you'll do is negate the fat burning your body did through exercise as it focuses on burning ethanol and all the fat you would have burned gets absorbed. Even if you vigorously exercise and chug liquor you'll still end up with fatty liver and die at 65 anyways, so being in shape is irrelevant.
