OP grew up under a rock. I have seen plastic disposable soup spoons all my life, just like a real set of silver thst has both teaspoons and soup spoons, as well as serving spoons, sugar spoons, iced tea spoons, slotted spoons, demitasse spoons.
Maybe you are just not that much participating in the world.
