On most boards on this website, the overall board culture at least somewhat revolves around becoming an above average performer/participant in the hobby/activity that the board is about. Even if most anons don't attain that goal, they still use that metric to judge other anons. /fit/izens are always trying to leave humanity behind, even if half of them dont even lift and another quarter have shit genes/work ethic and will never make it. /biz/raelis are always trying to escape the wage cage and get into 7 figure purgatory even if half of them are pajeets and another quarter get eternally bog'd. Even absolute shitholes like /mu/ and /fa/ consistently try to distill the absolute cream of the crop from their respective hobbies, even if their takes and tastes end up being ludicrous half of the time. Despite their failings, most boards have a drive to overcome the mediocrity of the masses and either find or attain something greater within the board's chosen topic.
Yet /ck/ is a glaring exception. Few people here cook, and the ones that do more often than not are only capable of shitting out the most putrid sloppa that a midwestern mother in law could ever dream of. Despite being a cooking board, most discussion here revolves around purely the consumption of food rather than its production - hence the pathetic torrent of fast food, takeout pizza, and alcohol threads. On the rare occasion someone churns out a genuinely good meal and shares the process here, the poster is derided for not filling the dish with horrendous slop that violates the fundamental idea of what the dish is (e.g
"Carbonara? WHERE ARE THE PEAS????" "What kind of beans are you putting in that chili?").

Circling back to those boards I mentioned earlier, there's a common element of a "meta strategy" to getting good at the activity the board pertains to. There are plenty of lifting routines that will get you swole, but if you come to /fit/ and ask if curling 2.5lb dumbbells for a set of 20 twice a week will get you shredded, you'll be laughed into next month and shamed away from posting again until you lurk and learn the lifting meta. Same with /biz/, same with /out/, same with /k/, and even /g/ to an extent. And typically, their meta strategies for success differ greatly from what average, stagnant normieniggers will tell you, which in a way supports their methods when you compare the board's success stories to the average clueless normalfag.
In stark contrast, this board lacks both a drive to get good at cooking AND a consensus on what "good cooking" is, even when the standards of good cooking might be the easiest for a normie to find on his own out in normienigger space. It's especially puzzling that /ck/ doesnt have this when you consider that cooking is probably one of the most enjoyable hobbies that has a dedicated board on this website, and therefore it has the greatest built-in incentives to improve your skills. Yet despite all of that, you niggers sit around stuffing your faces with Giordano's and dragon milk stout day in, and day out without ever touching a cutting board. You do ridiculous shit to your cooking as though adding retarded ingredients to well-established recipes is a badge of honor to spite some vague "other." Is adhering to culinary tradition really reddit tier? Is trying to get good at this fucking hobby REALLY the mark of a sóyboy? Why is cooking so different than any other activity you can discuss on this website?

This is a good observation, and it's pretty hilarious how I've never even seen any images or compilations of recipes from /ck/, but /b/ and /fit/ have contributed so many. I don't have an answer for you because I come here to shitpost while I think about what I'm going to cook. Maybe that's part of the reason, and maybe food is just too subjective to agree on what's good. After all, most people on 4chan are midwesterners who have no access to decent quality non-American food, so they're pretty much limited to home cooking and fast food, which makes up the majority of the posts that I see every day here. Honestly, this board is just kind of comfy to me... I don't suspect it will move past its current state unless famine hits or the economy starts doing really well and people can afford good ingredients on the regular.
