Why does excess salt make my tongue numb but sweet stuff make it go away

salt corrodes, which is why we put it on icy roads and why vikings made their boats with woods instead of metal, because the water in the north is salty. It's also why salty food tastes duller after a while, you're corroding your tastebuds. Sugar on the other hand soothes, which is why honey in warm water is recommended to people with sore throats

You've autistically stumbled across a phenomenon known as just balancing flavors. Some might call it "cleansing the palate." In the same way that an acidic or bitter wine might help cut through the flavors in a rich dish, something salty would cut through something sweet, or vice versa. It's why salted caramel works so well, or why adding acidity to a soup or stew helps balance out other flavors. Contrasting flavor profiles help balance out excessive heaviness in one or the other and maintain what you might consider a sort of "taste equality." Sweet on sweet on sweet might be okay in very small doses, but sweet balanced with acidity and salt is much more palatable over the long term.

Not true. Salt lowers the freezing point of water when it's dissolved, and interrupts the crystal structure of the ice

>you're corroding your tastebuds
I would expect sour, or, spicy food to do this too then, right?

for the salt to have any effect on the ice the ice would have to melt but you're saying the point of the salt is to melt the ice. Circular logic. I assume salt lowers the freezing point of metal too? get a brian retard
