I know you're joking, but that might not be far from the truth.

There's a decent chance that most of the so-called "long haul" COVID patients are just suffering from psychosomatic symptoms induced by extreme anxiety and an overexposure to the false narratives spread by liberal media. It's not the most well-studied area of medicine, but there's certainly evidence to suggest that a person who truly believes himself to be incurably ill will experience subjective symptoms similar to what he believes his illness will cause.

Same here guys. It's been two months and I'm so sick of it. I made my living before as a sommelier. If I don't get my sense of smell back, I can't go back to work in my field.

I've read that people who do "smell therapy"/"smell training" have quicker return on their senses over a control group. Pick some things that have a strong, familiar smell and spend maybe 30 seconds on each per day. Sniff it hard, think really hard about what you remember it smelling like. Do several per day and do some every day, but you can and should rotate in new scents. The going idea on the physiology of it is that inflammation from the infection in the sinuses actually destroys the neural pathways that interpret smells as senses you can identify, so you need to rebuild those pathways. I've read that some people have those neural pathways rebuilt wrong and previously pleasant smells start to smell like puke or metallic.

When I started doing this, I started recuperating some smells. At first just strong things like white vinegar, ground cinnamon, peanut butter. I'm starting to get more things. Today I drank a blackberry porter and I could smell the berry on the beer (could not smell the beer itself).

>>15699475
It's weird. At first I could only taste only basic ideas - I can taste sugar easily, I can taste/feel sour, I can taste salt somewhat. I still cannot really taste bitterness or savory. At first I could not feel the burn of capsaicin but now I can. Most of flavor is aroma, so you lose all nuance - vanilla cake and spice cake taste the same because they're both sweet, but I can't register the spices. I couldn't tell you the difference between broths made with chicken or with beef or with seafood, only that it's hot and salty.

The only thing I have reliably tasted the entire time has been chocolate, which was a lifesaver during the early weeks to have just one thing I could still taste like I remembered. Losing senses is emotional.

Its become more of this religious moral issue for these people. Media reporting on science cant just tell people, yea we dont really fully know because the "i fuckin love science crowd" doesnt actually know how science works and demands dogma instead of "ehh this is what it could be based on this mechanism and these conditions" while the media gladly picks and chooses what "science" they want to preach.

We all do. I mean those of us who still have some integrity left. I don't even know where all of this is really coming from, but we do have departments for "equality" now (where only women can apply I shot you not) that tell us how to write, do, and run things. If among 10 applications there is a woman or someone with disabilities, we have to invite them no matter what. All texts have to be written in their approved ay of addressing gender and departments have to pay fines if they don't employ at least one person with disabilities.
It's a fucking joke really, all grant farming and circle-jerking h-indices. They even know who peer-reviews their papers now.

True. I see this as a consequence of watering down the education system in what feels like a deliberate attempt to keep the public incapable of informing themselves. Same thing for journalism imo. Really depressing to think about.

Supposedly Prince Charles never got it back, and he's at 12mo now since his recovery.

Keep inflammation down in your sinuses, maybe a routine Flonase regimen or other steroid. Research and focus your diet on precursor foods in nutrition, ie brain foods, and maybe the pathways can be rebuilt in time. I'm sorry anon. Covid virus goes from the nose, right to the brain and the inflammatory response to the invader wrecks your cells.

I would say continue eating all types of flavors, far reaches of the spectrum, bold horseradish, fermented pickles, super sour, super bitter, and maybe new cells will get some training. If your dental or sinnus health sucks, get on top of that, too.

This is why I hate my insurance with the stupid $6600 copay annually, which I always nearly entirely pay out year after year, but not quite enough for IRS deduction. But, my horrible copy is balanced with 100% after that. Those partial 60/40 and 70/30 policies my coworkers and friends pick, with dangled free doctor checkups can come back to bite you from any emergency or any diagnosis. A 30% of 1,000,000 adds up if you had 1 day in the ICU or some minor surgery. I had a possible sinus infection last year, really minor, and that jackass ENT aimed a camera up my nose and billed my insurance 12k with 2 surgery codes, and they passed the cost to me. Buhbye copay yet agan. Working anywhere with inferior insurance is not worth it. Walk into any Blue Cross or other local provider and self-insure better than your employer

As a last resort, in a couple of years of minimal payments, if the bill is truly horribly unfair prices, consider a bankruptcy to get away from it. There's your free advice, kiddo.

That isn't true. You catch viruses from other sick people and the places they visited, duh. If you live in a multi-unit dwelling like a skyrise, good luck from avoiding public elevator lifts, handrails, buttons, stale hallways, and homes with some kind of shared HVAC and ventilation returns, etc. But if you live with your family in suburbia, wipe down your delivered groceries with wipes (or keep them in the garage for a couple of days first), you'll be alright.
Right now, New England is filled with wealthy people from the cities hiding out in their weekend vacation homes. If you stay out of the grocery and cook everything at home, you can outlast exposure to the contagion. The vaccines will help some if the variants don't get too strong too fast.

I do this.
Depending on what exposure I had, from going to a busy store or hours around people at work, I am full decon at home. It is ideally full head to toe decon, shampoo'd and showered, vigorously blowing my nose in the shower, if not even saline rinsing it. Always I use a fresh unused towel from my linen closet, absolutely nothing that wasn't hung on a rack or returned to a rack, straight to the hamper. My shoes are left outside my house, and I change into fresh clothes, brush teeth, listerine rinse, the whole kaboodle. If I want to pet or kiss my greeting dog, it waits til I'm done.
If my exposure was like opening a bunch of Amazon deliveries stored up to open at once in my garage, I maintain a sterile field kind of mentality. I might do a few minutes of something nasty like yard work, wiping down my car handles and steering wheel, or washing down a deck or simply handing dirty laundry into the washer. I might then attack the boxes, putting wrappings in trash and recycle before bringing items in the pantry or house, then I might partially shower off all exposed surfaces, skip the hair if I didn't leave my house. Isn't everyone being this careful? It's all common sense.

You cant have this rigid censorship and predetermined outcome planning and still have good science, but i think the powers that be would rather have narrative control over a better world.

Im a bit of a collapse fag. I think the only way things improve is after this system entirely fails and paralel institutions start to pop up. My fear is that these paralell institutions already exist but they are in places like china.

half of the people that say they got it I know irl are the typical drama queens that think the reason the run out of breath after heavy activity now is because coof reduced their lung capacity not because they're exhausted now it's undoubtedly true to some degree

People just did what the authorities suggested every year - proper hygiene, staying at home when sick, and masks help even more. Plus social distancing of course.

regular flu is down 98-99.x% depending on how you want to quantify it. I find it incredibly hard to believe half-assed measure barely enforced that a substantial minority at minimum doesn't really care about is having such sweeping success

I actually haven't lost any range, instead I've gained tinnitus which is really fucking up my sleep and just life in general.

Also, this actually happened about 22 months ago. But it's still here.

I got it and never lost my sense of taste or smell. All I got was a fever and dry cough and was over it in three days. I feel for you, op. Must suck to have shitty genetics and a crap immune system.

That is not the point. Many people are infected and don't show the symptoms. They still transmit it to other people.

You don't even know how health insurance works. The number you're talking about is either a deductible or an out of pocket maximum. It's ILLEGAL in the United States for a health care plan to NOT have an out of pocket maximum. Nobody in the United States that has health insurance pays more than like 8000 a year on Healthcare even if they have millions in medical bills if they are going to hospitals that take their insurance. If you are paying 6600 a year for the out of pocket maximum on the high premium plan, you may as well just switch to the low premium plan and see if your employer has an HSA to save pre tax money, because I doubt the out of pocket maximum is much higher than 6600 on the other plan.
