Dear cookies I am an alcoholic who has removed all hard liquor from his home. I drink 6 beers a night. I can feel my stomach slowly start to dissolve. I will not stop drinking my nightly beer at this time. What can I eat and drink along with my beer to help my stomach not rot out so much?

>> No.15692219

You can't, your body is trying to get rid of the toxins in your body. Why do you think you take like 6 diarrhea shits a day as an alcoholic.

I gave it up after a decade of binge drinking. Went from a liter of vodka a day and was clean two years then the pandemic happened and my fragile support system fell apart. I first started trying to give up at around a decade. It made me gain weight, but other than that, I never really had adverse health effects.

That was about 5 years ago. Boy have things deteriorated in the past 5 years. I have terrible GI issues, a chronic cough that won't go away (believed to be caused by acid reflux that I never even notice), and my short term memory is toast.

Get out while you can. you still have time.

I used to be there. Get ahead of it and cut down on your drinking. Also don't eat like two hours before going to bed.
I used to fucking eat a frozen pizza and down it with whiskey and beer and go straight to bed and didn't know why I kept coughing all year round. Had lungs xrayed and everything and it wasn't the lungs, just my shitty alcoholism and diet.

You owe it to yourself to stop drinking and stop compromising yourself. You don't want to always feel like shit and be a fucking loser and dying of alcoholism is a really bad way to go. You can do it, just man the fuck up.

Right now I'm in the middle of a huge work grind that will pay out very well in the end and what is stressing me today which is my task (work) and my goal is to finish it. Once the job is done it will be a whole new mindspace for me the possibiloties in that future will be bountiful. 6 is my constant. I will never drink more. But i will also drink nothing less. It's either 6 beers a night or 0 beers forever. Ive been drinking over a decade this is the least amount of drunk ive been in the last 9 year's. Hence why i said i no longer consume hard liquor. I wanna quit but until then i need advice on food that will help protect my stomach while im still down here in the ditch so to speak. I know itll get better moving forward but i have at least 4 more months of beer drinking what with work lifestyle

yep. You wouldn't think it's related, until I found out what GERD is. I went to an ENT and sure enough, there was bad damage when he scoped me, even though I never felt any symptoms of acid reflux or upset stomach.

He basically told me to cut alcohol and eating late at night, and it should go away in 90 days.

Also, if you have't tried talking to a professional, try it. I got prescribed naltrexone and it was like someone flipped a light switch. It was much easier to avoid alcohol and i found it also had a positive impact on binge eating. It's not a permanent solution, but it helps you get over that initial impossible feeling hump for the first month or two.

Alkies read below. I’m currently on Naltrexone and doing The Sinclair Method. It’s the only thing that has helped my drinking now I don’t crave it anymore.

The Sinclair Method (TSM) is a treatment for alcohol addiction that uses a technique called pharmacological extinction—the use of an opiate blocker to turn habit-forming behaviors into habit-erasing behaviors. The effect returns a person’s craving for alcohol to its pre-addiction state.

TSM consists of taking an opiate blocker one hour before your first drink of the day for the rest of your life as long as you continue to drink. The opiate blocker chemically disrupts the body’s behavior/reward cycle causing you to want to drink less instead of more.

The Sinclair Method has a 78% long-term success rate.*
Studies have proven that TSM is equally effective with or without therapy, so patients can choose whether or not to combine TSM with therapy. The physical results will be the same.** Extinction usually occurs within 3-4 months.***

About one quarter of those on TSM become 100% abstinent. Those who continue to drink will have to take their medication prior to drinking for as long as they continue to drink.

I used to drink like that but im an old man now all ripped up from a long timespan of ceaseless partying. It was the best time i ever could of asked for and i look back fondly on my past. However that time span has left me with a slight alcohol dependency where if I dont keep a light buzz going i dont quite feel myself you get me? Im not in it to get smashed anymore but my BAL dropping below .01 is just not the ideal way of spending the evening. However .1 is not preferable either. Ill binge drink with a mate who needs me to vibe on their level but on my own I never drink more than a beer every 45min. Im about the sip life. Chugalugging is in my past.

>NO SYMPATHY FOR ALCOHOLICS THEY CAN JUST QUIT!!

I had a shit life. I started to drink to be happy for once in my life, and I cant quit so I keep doing it. My dad used to beat me when he wa s drunk. He used to play "helicopter" with me. It was where hed grab my dog by its back legs and start spinning around making helicopter noises, and then throw it across the room telling me to "go fetch the helicopter". Sometimes it landed on the couch other times its head slammed into the wall. It went deaf and blind in an eye before dying probably of brain damage

I used to get blackout every night, eventually I just decided that I needed to make my life better and face my issues head on.
I had a really hard time sleeping, and usually when I couldn't get to sleep I would spiral and go down dark places. I just decided one day after a particularly ugly night that I'd quit. Honestly it wasn't so hard, the night before I had some awful plastic bottle whiskey and fucking pungent Chinese beer. Just having that disgusting stuff helped me think "yeah I don't need this". The majority of the choice just came from me feeling awful every day from the hangovers, which would push me to drink more. I knew I couldn't really make progress in my wellbeing until I broke the cycle.

Yeah, that's the same for me, but I haven't done anything else when I take the pill other than drink. I haven't had sex or exercised when on the pill. Only the day after.

Naltrexone is also used to to treat binge eating as well so that makes sense.

For example - today I was WFH. Normally this means start having beers by 10AM. I could rationalize it no problem even though I knew the repercussions would be horrible.

I thought about it and actually wanted to do it - but I just didn't care. I didn't have a craving crazy enough to drink at 10 AM.

I just didn't want to drink. There was no dilemma, I didn't struggle. This shit works.

Real nigga talk:
In terms of alcohol volume per other volume of material consumed, beer is a shit ton worse for you than booze.
This is compounded if you already have an out of whack digestive tract due to alcohol. Your body has become a pro at metabolizing ethanol; but doesn’t appreciate when it’s mixed with so much liquid carb.

You’re better off drinking a 325 of your liquor of choice rather than 6 beers.
Just do that. And never buy more than one of them at a time. Then try to cut back nightly as best you can.
Fuck anyone who says cold-turkey is best; with the trouble you’re having, tapering down is best, and you should do it with what your body’s used to; it’s rough enough without confusing your digestion/physiology with a curveball substitute like beer.

>t. Has steadily worked myself down to one shot per night, just before bed.
