Opposite happened to me. Got into whiskey with scotch, started drinking less and less, and now got into American whiskey. I still love Scotch, but I rarely drink it. What the HELL did I drink?

This tastes like some old Scottish hag visited a convenience store, and on the way back, she was walking past a bog and dropped a huge bag of licorice. Some baby pig found the bag of licorice, and fucked off with it into the bog, found an old tire to hide it and then went to town on the licorice. Unfortunately the baby pig happened to choke to death on the last piece of licorice. Some time after the wee little pig's death inside the tire, which was next to a tree, the tree was struck by lightning and lit on fire, which also happened to set the tire on fire. The burning tire/pig/licorice mess soaked into the peat in the bog, and sometime after that someone dug up that peat and made some whisky out of it.

Jesus, I drank a shot of this stuff yesterday, and I'm pretty sure I can still taste it.

There's a few directions you can take.
Higher PPM. Personally I don't think you can really tell that much difference in the 30-50 PPM range.
Younger. It'll add a rougher edge and save you some cash to boot.
Higher abv. Lagavulin has a 12 year old cask strength.
Go for a different type of peat. Imo Lagavulin is kind of ashy, but Laphroaig's iodine peat, Ardbeg's bonfire peat, Connemara's waxy peat all hit harder imo.

But it looks to be based on the Diego Flavour chart which I would not use because the Y axis is not continuous, and despite some near identical placements that information is not mentioned here.

40, but it's shared 5 ways. Plus a personal cache of 4 that will join that collection.
The guy whose place we keep them at brought 5 bottles at once so the rest of us had to match that.
Personally I don't think there's need for more than 10 good bottles since that's all you'll drink in a night.

If you only have 3 or so then it's boom and bust. You'll want to avoid a season of all duds.

1 - variety.

welp, I only saw Batch 3 there just a little while ago and they didnt really restock much maybe I just missed it, but picked this today thinking it was batch 3. My heart sank a little when was reading the box and it stated something about "Caribbean Spices", but looking up tbe differences in batches put me to ease as Batch 2 is 1st fill ex bourbon, virgin oak, PX and Olorosso Puncheon.

Initial nose on the neck pour reminded me alot of cheap spiced rum. lots of ripe banana, yeast and nuts/spices. with a couple drops of water I got a feint dark cboclate note.... and thats about it. For being Cask Strength its really kinda subtle on both nose and palate.

went in without eating anything and only having water for the day. The mouth feel is no more "hot" than 100 proof bourbon. I was expecting the back of my head to fly off, but this is kinda just above average. Letting it sit for a bit it has started to make me think its on par with Glendronach 12 with the Glendro being ahead. I'll report back if it changes drastically.

If you've never had Kilchoman it's actually extremely fucking good for its age. Sanaig is lot like Machir Bay, and Machir Bay is one where you're initially like "well I guess this is the last Islay distillery I haven't tried yet, not a fan of it being so young this can't possibly be good" and bam, it easily stands on its own as tasting somewhat like a cross between Lagavulin and how should I put it, a non-peated Ardbeg? Somehow it is addictively drinkable and Sanaig is a sherried version of that.

And yes, the few Kilchomans with a more normal-ish age (100% islay, loch gorm etc are 9+ years these days) are fucking jaw-droppingly good.
