Fell for the nice coffee meme a few months ago. Now have a hand grinder, french press and buy locally roasted coffee. It tastes better than Folger's obviously but I'm not really able to tell the difference between the three that I've tried so far. They have different flavor notes but taste nearly identical to me. I make sure to not let it steep for more than a few minutes so I'm fairly positive I'm not letting it get bitter. Did I get meme'd or am I a tastelet?

The caffeine crashes are becoming too much for me, bros.
I've been drinking coffee for a little over a decade now, and it's catching up to me.
Every day at the same time, I feel the crash coming on and I'm lethargic for hours until the caffeine's completely out of me.

It blows, I love everything else about coffee.
The preparation, the lovely smell, how you can customize the taste to your liking by keeping it black, adding milk and sugar, etc..
I'm not gonna make it.

I can't explain it but your post gave me a striking vision of a /ck/ coffee monastery/cult that attaches coffee brewing to some random religious principles.
It'd be located somewhere like Texas, where there's a lot of religious freedom and good climate for outdoor coffee roasting and grinding. You'll have an incredible relationship with the local farmers as farmers fucking love coffee.
You'll eventually become the figurehead of it, and give the following quotes in your Vice interview
>"sometimes you get to brew, sometimes grind, sometimes you get to roast, and sometimes you get to air out the smoke or sweep up the chaff... It's a lot like life if you think about it"
>"I'm aware of the cult accusations, but where can you go in life that isn't a cult anymore? We brew coffee as a cult, Twitter cancels people as a cult, Congress Republicans act supremely ineffectively as a cult"
>"I really wish you could've met TimAnon during your visit, but he's currently in caffisolation for another week. It's very similar to traditional isolation in monasteries but he roasts, grinds, brews, and drinks a cup of our famous diesel brew every hour for 10 hours every day"

You often do end up inferring greater truths in life through contemplation of necessary activities. Coffee roasting makes me think about time and the cost of things. Everyone's life is so specialized and compartmentalized now, but are they any happier for it? It pervades the very fabric of our thoughts. I gave my family some roasted coffee for Christmas last year and the first thing they started talking about was roasting coffee as a business. But to get a 2:1 ratio from the doubleshot basket, you're going to need to lift up the lever part-way through the pull and let more water into the piston. I still get great shots doing that, but it means you aren't recreating the idealized pressure curve that you could create with a pressure-profiling semiauto. But those are mad expensive and I don't want to deal with the upkeep and maintenance. The la pav is a tank and perfect for my 1-2 midday pick-me-up shots. I wouldn't trade it for anything else

Goes for Australia more broadly except for small towns and rural, and even in country towns there's usually one decent cafe. Remember when Starbucks came down here swinging their dick and telling everyone how Australians would end up making their stores their favourite? So the issue with your skerton knockoff is its got shit burrs(and poor alignment). You can spend a bit more and get an encore(which will be aligned poorly until you jam aluminum shim under the upper burr), but you've got to realize alot of the cost is going toward the motor/gearing/wiring. Spending money on that means you've got less to spend on burrs. With a "premium" hand grinder, most of them have a similar body. Its going to be a metal tube with a handle. What's your budget fren

Coffee can take you from $5 dripper to $2000 espresso machine pretty fast

Step 1: Get some fresh good beans. Find a local roaster or a shop/cafe that sells their stuff. They can grind them for you if you tell them how you're planning to brew it (e.g. in your drip brewer)

A blend is fine. Shoot for something light or medium. Coffees from a single origin are fun adventures because they each taste slightly different, but you'll have to go deeper to experience those nuances

>> No.15666664

>>15666516

Scrap the drip for something better. Decide what you want.

The easiest thing you can possibly do after that to get a dope cup of coffee at home is get an Aeropress. It's foolproof and you don't need anything else than that. You can boil water in a microwave if you don't have a way to heat it before using the Aeropress. Congrats, you're now drinking coffee that's better than what any normie drinks.

Do you want drip coffee but better? Get a pourover cone. A plastic Hario V60 is a few bucks and great. If there's a knockoff of that at Target it'll do for now. Then get a kettle. A cheapo one is fine, but a "gooseneck" one will give you control and let you make the best cup. YouTube will tell you how to do use these.

If want oily sedimenty coffee, get a french press. They're all the same, get a cheap one.

There's other niches to explore too, but I would start with one of those first two.
