I grew up upper middle class and literally the only times I ate egg salad sandwiches was on Easter and when I visited my rich grandparents, who would buy a bunch of egg salad sandwiches from a Jewish deli in San Diego to eat when they took us out on a yacht for the afternoon. I'll take the Jewish version over the Japanese version any day, but they hold a special place in my heart.
