Is this a good brand of grits, or did I get suckered by the packaging? Also, share your grits recipes. I like to use half chicken broth and half evaporated milk.

How much did you pay? Should be good to go. I use half chicken stock and water. I will sometimes add a few tbsp of cream cheese and green onion.

Isn't grits literally just cornmeal aka polenta as they call it in yurop? I'm sure if you buy it as cornmeal it'll be much cheaper

>> No.15566900

We don't have grits in our country.

>> No.15566903

Wrong. Polenta and grits come from two different kinds of corn and grits and finer ground.

I think they're ground to a different size.

You should be able to get grits for around $1 a pound or less.

I ate this shit for years as a quick breakfast/dinner going back to childhood, but in the last year or two what little quality it had has taken a nosedive. Gone to perpetually undercooked and practically inedible. What the fuck happened.

It could have been far worse, you could have been scammed by instant grits

No shit sherlock, I know what I'm buying. The problem here is it's as if had a packet of instant ramen where the noodles retain the brick shape after cooking and the flavor packet in not water soluble. Persists through 2 brand new containers and even my parents brought it up when I was last over, it's crazy

Eh it looks like a hipster stoneground brand. I don't think $13 is too expensive for 2 pounds.

I never know what to put in grits. Cheese grits seem nice, but I feel like only a fat ass would put cheese in porridge.

Prepare to behold the pinnacle of southern cooking.
>scrambled egg
>sausage patty cooked like a smash burger
>grits with pimento cheese melted into it, butter, salt, and heavy pepper.

All of this is mixed in a bowl with green onions
and a little cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.
This is the best breakfast a southerner can have.

Somebody else posted this here, I haven't tried it but want to.

Grits are hominy, parched corn which has gone through nixtamalization. It's vital to making the B3 in corn absorbable. It never caught on in Europe which lead to widespread pellagra.
