just put them in a closed container and the ethylene will be trapped and ripen the fruit.

ethylene is used commercially to artificially ripen all fruits, it works on anything. any unripe fruit, put it in a container with a banana, it'll ripen quickly. bananas offgas ethylene.

When I buy pears they're usually firm and hard and don't taste great. I let them sit around for a few days and they get soft and juicy and tasty.
