15536294 No.15536294 [Reply] [Original]

How is it possible to eat well but get under the UN recommended 2300mg of sodium per day? less than 3% of the global population is able to do this. Some organizations go even further and say that humans should stay below 1500mg of sodium per day. isn't this kinda insane? 1500mg is virtually impossible for a pre industrial diet, let alone a modern one. Americans consume on average 3500-4500mg a day. Chinese and Japanese go as far as 6000-7000 a day. I figure the 1500mg recommendation is one of those "noble lies" health officials often do as a negotiation tactic. Knowing that you won't reach it, but that you'll still cut back on your sodium *somewhat.*

>2300mg
There is literally nothing wrong with eating more than that. But anyway, if you don't eat processed shit or bread then it is unironically hard to eat more salt than that even if you salt the hell out of your steak. Trust me, I have measured how much salt a WELL salted steak is. I don't remember the exact number, but the point is if you avoid bread and shit you can salt as much as you like and still be around the recommended limit

>> No.15536309

The recommendation is retarded and wrong. Sodium is necessary for proper brain function and the regulation of bodily fluids between organs. You need lots of it and it will not give you hypertension.

yeah i guess it really comes to diet a lot then. eating unprocessed meat and steaks is probably one way, but most people can't afford to have high quality beef as their staple food. unfortunately, billions of people are going to rely on bread and rice, and those $1 or $2 frozen meals.

Use canned foods to cook with and wash the brine off with a caulander.
Or just eat more plain potatoes and sweet potatoes because taking potassium as a supplement is bad and ineffective, you're meant to get it in particular from foods, and most health conditions associated with moderately high sodium intake can be prevented by keeping your potassium more in line with it

Yes, its actually kinda funny because people who eat reduced sodium foods can end up with severe salt deficiencies. There were even health warnings on my local radio from the government reminding everyone to eat a daily amount of salt because so many people in my area were ending up in the hospital.

Correct, in fact eating more salt is better for you as well as limiting carbs and processed foods. Restricting eating windows and occasionally fasting are also shown to improve your biological age markers. Look into longevity research, it's actually some very interesting stuff.

My dad is 66 and he goes for multi-mile runs regularly in addition to walking his dogs for a minimum of 2-3 miles about every other day. He takes turns walking the dogs with my mom who is 60 and still actively working at her job. Neither of them have any health issues whatsoever other than being a little overweight, both of them also do plenty of yard work all the time.

Keep coping and trusting the "experts." Ever notice how every time there's an article about a healthy and vibrant centenarian the description of their diet is always the opposite of what most people do, and often opposite the recommendations of the modern health industry? And in those articles, they always say things like, "He/She must have just won the genetic lottery! They're doing everything wrong but still healthy at age 100/105/110! Don't follow their example, by the way, keep following the recommendations!!!" Yes, sweeping generalizations that start with "LITERALLY EVERYONE" can be disproven with anecdotes because if even 1 person breaks the trend then it can't be true that it happens to literally everyone. Anecdotes are only fallacious if you're trying to prove that something is statistically likely, but I was only proving that not literally everyone's body falls apart at age 60 and that anecdote is sufficient to do so. Stop getting so hung up on some prescribed list of fallacies and actually learn what they are, why they exist, and how they work.

Just switching from table salt to sea salt will cut your sodium intake by a third, or more.

You can blame the EU for perpetuating that nonsense. EU nutrition labeling guidelines require that you take the sodium content of a food, double it, then label it "Salt" instead of "sodium." Their logic is this:
>salt = sodium chloride (NaCl)
>sodium chloride (NaCl) = 50% sodium 50% chloride per molecule
>people cannot be trusted to figure out what sodium is
>people are familiar with what salt is
>therefore all sodium measurements must be converted to "salt" measurements by doubling it even if there is no actual chloride content present in the food
So literally in the EU they do not discuss sodium intake recommendations, they only discuss "salt" intake recommendations and their labels do not say sodium anywhere, they only say "salt."
