Hello /tbg/.I'm a cigarette smoker looking for a less harmful way to use tobacco that is at the same time cheap, convenient and "effective". Do you guys think snuff is for me? They are cheap where I live, can be carried to everywhere and take only seconds to use. Snuff users, what are the effects of sniff tobacco powder? It gives you a nice buzz and makes you feel good like a cigarette does? How much time the effects last compared to a cig?

And this was the last major study to look at pipe smoking with a sample size big enough to be staitstically useful. As for cigars, see the image.

Is there a risk? Sure. But it's far lower than you think. Meanwhile living in a large urban area carries a higher risk of lung cancer than pipes or cigar smoking. And note, these figures are for daily, routine smoking. If you use tobacco as an occasional treat, that risk declines even further.

>> No.15517575

>>15517557
Yes. Old tins of tobacco vacuum sealed age and continue to fement inside the tins leading to them developing a richer flavour. However, some old tins of pipe tobacco weren't sealed. If these were kept in a decent position for storage, they'll age well, if not, they might have dried out or gone mouldy. Aging cigars is the same principle, you just need to maintain a decent environment to prevent them from drying out or going moldy. The spanish cedar isn't actually neccesary, it's just a very porous wood that holds humidity well and so historically has been used for this purpose. People have aged cigars in air tight containers quite successfully. In fact, a plastic air tight container, with proper humidification is actually better than most humidors out there due to actually being air tight, as long as it's kept out of sunlight, etc.

There's a shop near me that still has tins of Dunhill mixtures. There's an Elizabethan, 2 or 3 London Mixtures, and an Aperitif tin. They've been sitting in the shelf so long that they all have a layer of dust on them(it's primarily a headshop and vape shop, hardly anyone is interested in the pipe tobacco). I bought a tin of the Elizabethan and London mix last year, I wonder how long they've been aging in there.

If you order it in bulk, you can just take all the unopened tins, and put them in a freezer bag in the freezer, I've never had my snus dry out that way even after around a year. One tin of siberia is ~5$ base, you can get , even cheaper when you buy in bulk, AND there's normally a lot of special deals if you watch out for them (free shipping, etc). Even including shipping, from someplace like snus direct you're almost always going to be paying at, or below 25c/packet, which for me is cheaper than the cost of a cigarette.

Pipe tobacco tends to be more alkaline which lets it absorb through the mucus membranes in the mouth easier but is far harsher on the lungs.
Cig tobacco is cured in a way to produce acidic smoke which is easier on the lungs and absorbs better that way.
Some “pipe tobaccos” are actually cig tobaccos that are marketed for pipes to avoid certain taxes. A lot of states put harsher taxes on cigs than other tobacco products.

Probably cigs since you take the smoke directly into the lungs in it’s most concentrated form. The real question for all the moral crusaders out there is what’s worse between tobacco and weed.
I guarantee you they don’t have the same emotional reaction to pot smokers despite the fact that more and more evidence is coming out linking weed smoking to cancer. The only reason this link wasn’t established was because you couldn’t easily study it due to the illegality and stigma. You’d have to be a retard(like most pot heads) to think burning one type of plant is somehow magically non-toxic while the other is pure concentrated cancer.
But we didn’t grow up with Truth ads showing the scarred lungs of pot heads and little girls crying as their moms died of cancer caused by weed smoke etc so they aren’t psychologically conditioned to hate weed second nature like they are with tobacco. In fact most people would say they think it’s got valuable medical uses despite almost no evidence for that fact beyond one or two minor things like as an appetite stimulant.

It would be better to figure out what other flavor profiles people like and point them towards something similar. If you like islay scotch you’ll probably like an English tobacco even if you’re totally naive to smoking.

Each or for both? If the cans are $5 each then that's about what you'll pay if you make an order on snus24. Buying 10 cans of each would bring it down to about $4.50 per can, but buying 15 of each would be closer to $4 per can, and 20 of each is about $3.75 per can. If you have the cash to make a bulk purchase and know you're going to regularly use it then you can save a little bit in the long run so it might be worth it. General at the gas stations near me is closer to $9 each so I end up saving a lot more.

General is the most popular brand and usually regarded as being the best though. I think most people only buy something else to save money as General is one of the more expensive brands. It's a really good snus and most other brands I've tried I haven't liked, although it's personal preference because I don't like the fake fruit flavoring in a lot of them while others love it. But I did find one I actually like a little more than General called Kronan which is made by the same company, and it's a lot cheaper at around $1 less per can.

No interest in the mint.

Didn't know that about General's reputation and price point. It's just tempting seeing the cool graphic designs posted around of the different brands but I guess it's mostly do you want cheaper price or a higher nicotine content? I'm pretty satisfied with general's nicotine content and I use it all day, I think much higher and I'd start feeling sick.

Maybe I'll order something new as a treat for a birthday or something. Any recommendations based on 'original' flavor? That 'Rape' stuff seems popular

It's crazy expensive here which is why I'm glad it can be imported because it basically cuts the price in half. General original is just flavored with bergamot. White portions do last a little longer because they aren't pre-moistened. I didn't care for the mint too much when I tried it either so I wouldn't recommend it. Sticking with regular strength is probably your best bet. I've tried strong and it seems to burn a lot more which makes swallowing it feel unpleasant and if you don't already have a tolerance built up it does quickly go from kind of enjoyable to sickening.

I tried Goteborg's Rape and it was okay, it has lavender and juniper flavoring. If you think you might like snus with a fruit flavor then it's a good choice but it's not my preference. Ettan has an unsweetened cocoa powder flavor to it that I thought was pretty good. And Grov is good too if you actually like the taste of tobacco since it seemed like it wasn't flavored as strongly. You could also try the loose versions where the tobacco isn't in a pouch already, it's a little messy but it does taste pretty different and can feel a bit more comfortable which some people prefer. I still mainly use portions for the convenience but occasionally having the loose stuff is nice too.

What’s the best way to get cigarette smoke out of books and papers? I play D&D with a couple of chain smokers. When I go home, everything I have stinks. I have to take my clothes off and leave them in the garage if I’m not immediately washing them. Not sure what I can do with my books and papers. Can’t air them out in the house, and there’s no good place to have them in the garage. Ideas?

how much is the tax over packed cigarettes and similar products?
maybe its targeted as a end consumer product, and that would explain the insane price on some imported packs I've found
eitherway, I used to make roll-cigs with pipe tobacco and it was extremely good tasting, if not a bit stronger

Just arrived today. Would have cost £150 ($200) in uk prices. Cost me £80.
In my order I got 100g of ascania #2 which I can't get here and couple of Hu blends that I can't get in the uk.

Today is a good day.

The thing about Toque is that their snuffs are usually singularly scented, and almost always of that very standard medium-dry medium-fine sort. If you’ve only ever had Toque but never Pöschl, Gawith, or others, you’re missing out.
Alternatively you could make it yourself. Good snuff is brain dead easy, and you’ll be surprised at how lovely it turns out.

Yes, kind of. Strong snus has more alkali typically (higher pH), which means it burns more in the lip. Often, strong snus is also portioned as white dry portions, and dryer portions can aggravate the gum line more. Doesn’t help that they’re usually mentholated.

>> No.15551679

>>15550880
I checked the Swedish Match site and the pH is 8.7 for the regular and 8.6 for the strong so it's actually lower, original portions and no menthol. I guess it's just the concentration of nicotine. Was curious because occasionally I like to use two regular strength portions and the drip from that is fine, but one pouch of strong which overall had a little less nicotine burned too much going down to be enjoyable.

Ordered successfully through hacico and esterval's pipe house.
It blatantly says pipe tobacco on the paperwork, so I assume customs have bigger fish to fry.
I keep an eye on r/ukcigars to get an idea of what's getting through customs.

4noggins in America is supposed to get through pretty easy, but I've not tried them yet

>> No.15553826

Customs is such a jerkoff. Whether or not something gets seized as a "violation" seems to determine entirely on the mood of the guy working the x-ray machine. I'm so goddamn fed up with "feel good" laws and regulations designed to protect people from themselves. Personal accountability and responsibility have been flushed over the years. Sick fucking world, pals.

For me its a good bit of homegrown Northern Lights from a briar churchwarden. Its a classic strain for sure but I find its typical abundance of Caryophyllene and Myrcene tend to give it a nice flavor that goes great with white wines and fish with citrus.

Reminder to ream out your pipes if you've been using them for a while. I've just given my entire collection a deep clean, including polishing the bits and wood and reaming them all out. It's amazing how much cake can build up over time and how it can effect your smoke, making it harder to keep things like flake lit or just crowding out the bowl and meaning you can fit less tobacco. I think I've expanded the capcity up at least by half in some of the worst effected ones.
