Yeah, it's dogshit. It's what's referred to as an "allocated" item. It's distributed entirely at the whims of the state, and it's notoriously corrupt to boot, so certain stores will always get prime picks of the best stuff - but it's bad news for customers, because they don't actually sell what they get out the storefront, they just call up close friends and family and sell it to them.

What state? I've gone to stores across the whole state and asked about it, and they all confirmed it's the way it operates for them too. Obviously, you can ask for items based upon local demand, but for allocated items that means jack shit for how much they'll give you. I saw a fifth of Buffalo Trace today for 55 bucks. I couldn't believe it but the proprietor said it was a special edition although I couldn't see anything signifying that. He sold me two tenths instead for 20 bucks less. He also had a handle of Weller for 60, I probably should have got that. I'll go get it Saturday if it's still there.

It was in a display that looks like it was set up by a sazerac rep. Had eagle rare and the aforementioned wellers (no blanton though lol) along with others that seemed normally priced, was just that fifth of bt that was weird. I'll get a picture on Saturday.

Generally around here though, if a price on hard liquor is off, it means the owner is trying to screw you, and it's pretty simple to screw him back. Silver lining and all that.
