I have a sensitive one in the hallway of my apartment, you can see it from the stove. It’s sensitive enough to pick up on microscopic oil droplets that have splashed on the stove coils (yes, coil shit tier stove feels bad man) but I can angle a fan on it so that it never goes off.

One time I pan seared like 6 ribeyes in a row for meal prepping and when I turned around I couldn’t see my front door 15 feet away from all the smoke. No alarm though.

I took all the fire alarms down from my apartment and hid them under the couch. They might as well be called "cry wolf alarms" because 99.9% of the time they're going off for pointless shit. When I hear them beeping in other apartments I don't even stir so what's the point of even having them?
