Is Lobster really a delicacy or a meme for the peasants?

Just made and ate some lobster stuffed mushroom caps.
Lobster is delicious, don't be a nerd.

>> No.15438697

It depends on how you make it, lobster tails really can be great but you have to prepare it right.

Have you ever seen live lobsters steamed?
It was kind of unnerving hearing them scream.

My family used to do it but full lobsters are too damn expensive so now when we get lobster, which is rare in itself, we just get tails.

Lobster is really bland, if you like it you'd probably enjoy any ingredient which was prepared in the same way.

In terms of price certainly, I don't feel like I'm paying an arm and a leg for crab. I just wish crabs had more meat on them but I'm sure that would jack up the price.

Lobsters don't scream, anon, they are biologically incapable of doing so. The sound you're hearing is hot air escaping from their carapace and tail.

dunno but here in new zealand youll pay literally 70 dollars (~50usd for a fullcrayfish) cooked and for a once a year treat it's worth it to me

also a couple time me mates from kaikoura will gift me a few but it aint the same as when I overpay for one from nins bin.

either way yeah, it's worth it. hell I pay over 10nzd for a spider crab each from the chink market in the off season, well worth it. I do two just for meself lol. don't even get me started on whitebait prices and how much fucking money I waste on this shit. legit like hundreds of dollars perhaps up to 1k per season just for me lol and I'm a fucking manlet scrawnlet. haast whitebait holy fuck it's the elixir or life I'm 31 an get ID'd every single time I buy liquor or wine.

oh well I just convince myself its why I'm healthy and chow down

>> No.15438763

meme for the rich. lobsters used to be a poor man's food and workers had it written into their contracts that they not be fed lobster more than a few times a week. now it's overfished so the price went up on it and rich people pretend like it's god's gift to cuisine. so goes most things though.

If you're still feeling shitty about boiling (and you should actually steam) live lobsters, you can also put them to sleep by standing them on their heads and rub a finger back and forth over their carapace, which over stimulates the lobster's simple nervous system, effectively shutting them down for a short period of time.

They were steamed in this case, but I honestly was disappointed. Claw meat had been built up so much but it just left a very strong and unwanted aftertaste to me.
Tails are edible but really how much of that is because they are slathered in butter.

The peasant food thing is actually a bit of a myth. While, yes, lobster was a cheap trash food at one point, this was due to it being basically impossible to keep fresh prior to cooking and serving. The modern infrastructure we have today that keeps a steady supply of happy, live lobsters available to acquire and cook on demand, simply did not exist back then.

So the idea of a fresh, well prepared lobster was certainly not peasant food.

No idea if it's meme material, but I visit a buddy up in ME once a year, generally right before the first hard freeze and the guys are always flush with them, to the point they can't sell them wholesale anymore. I wouldn't call them a delicacy, but they're certainly a treat. Bisque, bread, butter, mushrooms, mac, etc, they are delightful and even just steamed they can be very sweet and not fishy at all.

>> No.15442481

Depends entirely on prep

Fags thinking chicks truly give a shit one way or the other. If you've already got to the point where you're both getting heated and naked, you'd have to have some obscenely grotesque shit going on downstairs for her to back out. Your bush and balls are more likely to scare her away than whether or not you're cut. And even that shit would have to be royally fucked for her to turn you down mid foreplay.
So many larping virgins on this fucking site.

At one point, after the novelty had worn off and spice became widely available, spice was considered peasant trash for people who needed to cover up rotten ingredients and didn't have professional chefs on the staff. At one point, plain white bread was considered a delicate luxury for the rich. At one point, high heels were considered a masculine shoe. It doesn't prove anything objective. It's just culture.

>> No.15444363

You can also put them in the freezer for a bit to knock them out but really you should just drive a knife through their heads just before cooking. Instantaneous death, the least cruel method.

Interesting how long boiling takes to kill you. Found this nice article and am kind of curious to experience it now.
https://www.ranker.com/list/what-being-boiled-is-like/laura-allan
That was after looking up lobsters to find it takes them about three minutes.

I doubt stabbing them in the head is going to be much faster if you miss the brain. It might be better to just decapitate it.

>> No.15444416

>>15444403
There's a notch in the top of their shell that is right above their brain. You insert the tip of your knife there, stab through, then cut down through the head, bisecting it. It really is instant, you can't really fuck it up.

Also don't boil yourself.

I had lobster once when I went to Maine, it was good, but certainly not something I'd seek out. Plus having a meal where you can accidentally get shit in it if your not careful is gay
