Hot sauce is used largely to cover the taste of putrid, rotting ingredients. It's dirt cheap to make and has been marketed as a replacement for your masculinity and lack of cultural identity over the last 20 or so years. If anything, they go on about cholula. I've seen more snobbery about tabasco being flavorless than fansoying.
Tabasco is the best hot sauce for beans, that sharpness and vinegar to it stays more present than most hot sauces will. Also great on fries, like a weird spicy malt vinegar.
