So after the last thread about rice cookers i've realised that i want a luxury rice cooker instead of this shitty 20 bucks rice cooker. I eat rice about three times a week and i don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Been peeking at YumAsia's induction models.

Anyway, Rice cooker thread.

you're retarded if you think "learning" to cook rice is his problem.

Everyone can cook fucking rice on the stove top, the rice cooker however makes it perfect every single time, no need to tune it for each kind of rice. No need to pay attention to it while it's cooking, no need to worry about over boiling or scorching the bottom of the rice (unless you want that in which case some rice cookers have scorch settings).

i'd rather just have a device that does it all without any thought or effort. Rinse the rice, put it and press a couple buttons. I can even do this before leaving for work and set it to cook the rice at the right timing so it's done as soon as I get home from work.

Rice with stuff in it:

>add rice to pot
>add water to pot
>add stuff to pot

>press start to cook immediately or set the time for when you want it done

That’s literally every rice-based rice cooker recipe.
Doesn’t matter what the “stuff” is.
You can toss in broccoli, clams, mushrooms, and asparagus, if that sounds good to you. It will be cooked to perfection.

Throw that regret to the wind, bro.
The Zojis on that site are beyond obsolete; they’re comparable to NA exports of 10-15 years ago, and basically antiques compared to the JP domestic line. Yet the better ones on YumAsia are priced the same as the current highest-end NA models, which use both IH and pressure-sealed cooking.

The model in OP’s pic is objectively far better than any of the Zojis offered on the same site, at a fraction of the price, simply by virtue of using IH.

I guess if you want to completely ignore fuzzy logic, multiple layers of induction heating elements, and the ability to reduce the pressure inside to allow streaming at a lower temperature.
A good high end rice cooker is nothing like stovetop rice from a small pot. Maybe if you've got years of experience with an iron pot + fire, or traditional clay pot, you can make good traditional rice, but a high end rice cooker, especially the Japanese domestic models will make prefect rice every time, every grain will be cooked nearly identical to every other grain, there aren't going to be undercooked bits in the center that get more cooked towards the edges like the average person using a pot in the stove ends up with

No one claims fuzzy logic is monitoring every grain.

It monitors heat, time, and moisture.

So for example, if the heating element has been on for awhile and it's getting hot inside, a fuzzy logic rice cooker will automatically lower the heat so as not to scorch anything. A "dumb" rice cooker might be pre-set to lower the element power output after a certain period of time, but it's not doing it based on feedback from the current batch of rice.

A fuzzy logic rice cooker will cook 2 cups of rice in a different manner than it would cook 10 cups of rice. But a dumb rice cooker will treat any amount of rice the same. 2 cups, 6 cups, 10 cups, it'll do the same thing every time.

Because it cooks for longer and at least on Zojirushi models involves a long pre-soak time.

This lower temp longer cook time is gentler on the starch and allows for more flavor to develop.

It really does make a difference, though unless you're eating rice several times a week you probably won't care.

I got memed into buying a zojirushi by all the threads here; I just made my first serving, it’s okay, nothing special, but I probably have to play more with the water levels to get something that I like. The timer function to have it be done cooking when you’ve come home or finished making dinner is neat though

those lines don't mean anything

is it a rice line, a water line, rice and water mixed together line?!?!?

I should put the water in a reservoir, then pour the rice into the machine and the machine should say ah yes 50g of rice I shall now add the appropriate water from my tanks

the technology do to this exists!

Its the water + rice line.

Measure the rice with the included cup, for each cup you want to fill with water (+ the number of cups of rice) to the corresponding line.

The numbers correspond to the amount of rice you've put in the pot. You should have got a measuring cup with the machine. If you add 1 cup of white rice, then you add water up to 1 line of the white rice guide.

I have this bad boy. It's xiaomi IR rice cooker. I paid for it like $100 and that was a good price for a rice cooker like this, since I'm a yuropoor and don't have those fancy jap cookers easily available.

Yes, it cooks rice and can keep it warm for hours. So it's main function is working.
The problem with it is the Xiaomi app - it's very limited in Europe. A lot of recipes are hidden behind chink language and server, so essentially you are being robbed of many possible things you can do with it. For example, chinky app has presets for shitloads of types of rice. I only have 3 presets for white rice - one preset takes 1h and allows me to pick the so called "taste curve". It controls how rigid or how soft the rice will be. I like the rice on more rigid side, because I don't use chopsticks anyway, but the hardest setting is still soft for me.
The second and third rice settings are for 40min and 1.2h, can't change anything there.
They are also programs for steam cooking (tray included) and typical rice cooker bullshit like yoghurt and cake. Bear in mind that chinks get more recipes in the app like beef stew.

Overall I'm mildly disappointed. It works and is good, but could be better if they just enabled more options for westerners.

You gotta make like 3 cups, fluff it, then close and let it continue steaming for a while. It will keep your rice fresh for a long time, especially if you take care to make a "mound" out of it on the inside. I'd also suggest shopping other rices tho like some that I get are decent and I go "yup that's rice" but my favorite brand is like "holy fuck that's tasty." Anyway good luck and I hope you enjoy your machine.
