Hey all, what foods/drinks help with alcohol cravings? I abuse booze and need to take a 3 month break minimum for a medical test. I've managed to abstain for months at a time but alcohol is always on the forefront of my mind.

I start in 3 weeks, thanks in advance for any help!

They won't see alcohol in your blood after that long. All you need is a few days off

>> No.15422459

Oh, to be clear, it's not about alcohol being in my blood, it's that my mom has an autoimmune disorder that I might have inherited, however a false positive can come up when the liver is particularly strained. To narrow down exactly what is wrong, my doctor needs to isolate whether this is alcohol induced or inherited.

phenibut perhaps, dunno if that's good for the liver though, and its even more addictive than alcohol. Never use it more than 3 days per week

Oh I see. I don't really know to be honest. Maybe weed could be a good substitute that won't affect the liver? Of course physical activity would be the best, but I know that's not gonna happen

If you are craving for something like red wine - try some bitter berry (e.g. aronia, cranberry, blueberry) or cherry juice. Or get an strong coffee. You also can try some herb tea, like fennel, licorice, anise, lavender, sage or camomille (these herbs are also very nice mixed together).
Good luck!

This. Liverwurst sandwich on seeded rye, with kewpie mayo, coarse mustard, zucchini pickles, and maybe some baby spinach (could be left out).

The only issue you'll find is that once you stop drinking a lot of vodka, it's no longer cleans your system or even your teeth. You might have to start brushing again, if you haven't in years.

Cola and other sodas, sweet food and drinks in general can be nice, some of you fat fucks will eat sweets when you're drunk but that always makes me feel like shit physically so I appreciate them more when I'm not drinking. Candy like jolly ranchers or similar are good because one lasts a while. Coffee is good too, I had to sit through this boring as FUCK presentation for work the other day and it was getting to the point of actually making me depressed and on a break I had a coffee and it made it more tolerable, more than just waking you up coffee has been shown to help with depression.

Besides just food, do things that being drunk makes you worse at. Play some difficult or competitve FPS or spaceshooter game, read something complicated, excercise maybe

Bupropion's notable for having no common sexual side-effects nor does it cause weight gain like other similar medications. It's well-documented in anti-addiction treatment, though not commonly recommended for alcohol addiction due to how it's metabolised by the liver and potential serious side effects from the interaction.

Not to say medication should be used as a first line treatment in addiction in the first place, but it's not to be disregarded.

Kratom is ridiculously addictive lol, the way cigarettes are more than the way heroin is, because it's pretty mild and can be bought easily so I've seen people have a really hard time shaking it. kratom is nice to relax and listen to some music, or take your mind of some physical pain you have (in my opinion), but indeed it's not even close to a replacement for booze, the effects are too different and it's also addictive.

the one time of my life (thus far) that I kicked a daily habit, a small quantity of kratom actually was how I broke the routine. It doesn't mix well with booze and seems to, I don't know how to put it.... Like how scratching an itch feels good but scratching anyway with no itch doesn't feel like anything.

That said, for OP's purposes, it is supposed to effect the liver. I don't know a whole lot and it doesn't seem there's that much hard data on the stuff in the first place. I just know that a lot is bad for the liver and that kratom+booze is capitalBcapitalN Bad News for the liver at that.
But it could be worth considering picking up an ounce from a headshop, just to help with the first day or two. Playing with fire though, I'd guess.

Now that I think about it, you could switch to kava. Though do the research on that one. It has its own share of warning labels. The big thing is you really don't want to mix alcohol and kava together. You will want to be at least 24 hours sober before you use kava. Supposedly kava has a "reverse tolerance", so you eventually need less kava to get the euphoric effect. Some swear it's much safer however. Though I don't know how it will interfere with your tests.

>>15422830
As an alcoholic I don't find kratom too addictive, but I think it just depends on the body. One body might be more addictive to depressants like alcohol. Another might be more addictive to opioids.

>>15422885
Alcohol and kratom never made me feel any different. Heard alcohol would enhance kratom but it didn't seem to do anything, bad or good, for me. In regards to the liver anything you need your liver for to break substances is a risk when combine with alcohol or other substances that need heavy use of your livers enzymes.

You could at least start cutting back now. How much do you drink? Is it daily? Could start cutting the total number of drinks back to help ease yourself out of it. Which you would want to do anyways if you're a heavy drinker. Maybe get to a point where it's an only weekend thing, or special occasions like the Super Bowl. Then pray you don't relapse.

Yes, it's daily. And it's very hard for me to cut back. Once I have a few, my inhibitions go out the window and I say "fuck it." Not to mention, setting aside special occasions means I'll just start making excuses for everything to be a special occasion.

I'm also unemployed right now, with no one to hold me accountable, so keeping it to the weekends would just be arbitrary. But, I know I can set goals and stick to them when it comes to 100% abstinence and not having alcohol in the house.

And this feel. Had a very alcoholic summer last year. I don't want to think about the money I spent weekly. Past month too. It is a bit easier to cut back once you got responsibilities, but sometimes that doesn't even stop me.

the common phrase is that "One drink makes you drunk", which comes from the literal truth that, regardless of tolerance or how much it takes for you to feel "the kick", drunk or not, your first drink has objectively altered your judgment. It's why sober nerves of steel go limp so, so fast, once you've made the decision to start.

As a alcoholic myself the best I have is absolutely massive intake of green tea literally constantly, and to keep busy.

By keeping busy I mean literally come home, no not go on the internet, do not waste time, clean something, walk around, have a shower, do some weights, etc etc etc.

One after the other. If I stop doing things and chill I will start drinking.

I must keep up unending tasks to not destroy body further.
