I'm british and I've been to quite a few places. I even spent 9 months in america. Quality of life is relative. Generally a balanced mind is at ease with the median of whatever surrounds them at the time, but once you move away from the middle the monkey brain kicks in and we start thinking we are doing better or worse than others.

Americans have bigger houses, bigger roads, bigger cars. They have free refills, free fries with the drinks, air conditioning, garbage disposals, washer driers, all that fucking stuff. There is a lot of be thankful for in america.

This isn't however the be all and end of all everything and everywhere though. One thing that is certain is that america consumes a ridiculous amount of the worlds resources, often thoughtlessly and unnecessarily and more often than not never moving past average happiness when doing so because it is all relative.

So to an american having no air conditioning is terrible because it would make them unhappy because everybody there has air conditioning. But in places where that isn't the norm nobody gives a flying fuck about air conditioning.

The usual rings true. Be thankful for the things you have that you enjoy and don't try to make yourself feel better at the expense of others. I've been happy doing everyday shit all over the world. Do you think I gave a shit that the accommodation was small in Japan?
