Having a had glimpse into her son lee's life and how all his meals were pre-packaged or frozen foods and basic three-ingredient sandwiches - nothing actually cooked properly in a kitchen - I think it's sage to assume that she had never really cooked before starting those videos and in those years of making the videos those were also the only times when she would cook.

Some people never got good at cooking. My mom who lived in a communist country for 40+ years cooked the same thing over and over again. Even after immigrating to the US, her cooking style hasn't changed.
