The Chili Dog a la Sonic is what got me really into cooking, in that it was so terrible I stopped trusting recipes and began experimenting on my own. 8 oz of BBQ sauce and half a cup of mushroom in chili, what the fuck were the writers thinking when they wrote that down?
Just use whatever your favorite chili recipe is and double the cayenne, as it'll balance out with the bland hotdog.

Did you use Kirkland Beef Hot Dogs or some sort of shitty brand? Did you brown the hotdogs in the toaster oven, or cook them some shitty way? How's the quality of your chili? The quality of your hotdog buns? Did you toast the buns? If any of the major ingrediants were something you don't enjoy by themselves, look for a better brand or better recipe.
