Nope. Westerners invented Forks for a reason.

I can see the upside of Chopsticks in a developing society (They're literally just two sticks, you can get those off any tree), but once your society gets metalurgy and a blacksmith in every village, I see no reason to continue using Chopsticks except for cultural reasons.

In Chinese cooking the chef is the one who uses a knife, not the diner. The cuisine is designed to be eaten with chopsticks, just as western cuisine is designed to be eaten with a fork and knife.

>> No.15189748

>>15189734
That's still shitty, biting around it and avoiding a piece of metal, as the tines barely poke your tongue.

Chopsticks give a lot more control and allow you to maneuver your food mid-bite and manipulate it.

Forks let you stab it.

>> No.15189753

>>15189742
I never mentioned a knife though: Forks function 100% well independent of knives, so the chef can do the same thing there and the person eating could function with just the fork.

Eating with chopsticks is just more pleasant, it's holding your food rather than stabbing it. It's not only easier for many foods (if you know how to use chopsticks) but it's also nice to bite into something that hasn't been stabbed a bunch.

I do like spoons, and I eat with them often too. But overall I don't like forks much. I don't use them for anything except steak usually or like holiday dinners.

I'm that anon.

I mostly used forks for the first 26 years of my life. When I was 27 I decided to use chopsticks exclusively for a little bit to develop the skill, and now I love them and feel that forks are just a bit barbaric. I hate washing them, hate how the tines want to stick in the dishwasher and such, and how they'll scratch and poke you if you aren't careful with them.

Look, even if you don't dislike forks, you have to agree that they're shitty for something like steamed dumplings. Poke a hole in it, juice runs out, the thing starts falling apart. And then once you're eating it you either have to pop the whole thing in your mouth or remove it from the fork to reposition it. Compared to chopsticks which let you gently hold it as you eat from one end to the other. It's strictly superior to eat dumplings this way, with no room for nuance or argumentation. Forks lose here, full stop.

>> No.15190473

>>15190457
Oh that's not to mention something like sharing foods with a group. When there are plates of shared foods, chopsticks are much better than forks for reaching and grabbing things from the center of a table or whatnot. It also might be more sanitary depending on the food, but it's definitely easier. Try grabbing something off of a plate with a fork while your arm is extended. It's an awkward angle, and it's made more difficult by the fact that the only way you can grab the food is by pushing into it (and if it slides around you're fucked). Chopsticks are precise and very ergonomical as well. When I'm eating I like to be able to grab an individual leaf or bean or maybe a delicate piece of fish. These tasks are much more difficult with a fork.

I use them more and more each day it seems. I used to just use them to eat popcorn so I could snack at my computer without getting my fingers greasy, then I got good at using them. Then I discovered ramen and other Asian restaurant foods I really like.

Today I'm sick and made myself chicken noodle soup, except with udon noodles and leftover (previously frozen) thanksgiving turkey in chicken stock. I ended up using chopsticks to eat it.

They're also useful in the kitchen for stirring or just picking up or manipulating things cooking in a pan. When you learn to use them they just become an all around practical new tool to have around.

I enjoy using chopsticks as long as everything is portioned out. I'm just not using it for noodles or rice unless I'm somewhere that I'm really offending the host.

Especially with sushi they're good, so you're not smearing a fork that was just in your mouth on someone else's piece. Or stabbing it so the whole thing falls apart. They seem more ideal for shared foods.

Also, my dad was based in Korea in the Air Force and taught me how to use them young. I can pick up almost anything with them, but I use them weird. Hand strength for something other than jerking my cock.
